I Tried Starbucks Tie-Dye Frappuccino [Review]

Things are getting groovy at Starbucks as the company has just dropped a new limited-time-only Frappuccino. Available starting today (July 10) at participating Starbucks locations in the US and Canada is the Starbucks Tie-Dye Frappuccino.

The drink was designed with the concept of “summer in a cup” and to bring you back to those summer camp feels. Tie-Dye was also a fashion trend of Spring 2019 and now it’s moved on to being a fashionable drink.

What is the Tie-Dye Frappuccino made of?

According to the company, the drink is made with a tropical Crème Frappuccino with dashes of powder in yellow, red and blue (which gets its color from red beet, turmeric and spirulina) that mix to make a rainbow of vibrant hues. The beverage is topped with whipped cream and a final dusting of colored powder.

How much is the Tie-Dye Frappuccino?

At my local Starbucks in Vancouver, BC Canada, the Tie-Dye Frappuccino is $5.25 for a Tall; $5.75 for a Grande; and $5.95 for a Venti

How many calories does the Tie-Dye Frappuccino have?

A Tall Tie-Dye Frappuccino has 280 calories; Grande has 400; and Venti has 500. I’d say these values are within reason for a typical Starbucks Frappuccino. Like all other Starbucks beverages, it can be customized.

Does The Tie-Dye Frappuccino Have Caffeine?

The Tie-Dye Frappuccinos are caffeine-free.

Appearance

As Starbucks has stated, no two tie-dyes are alike and each has its own combination of swirling shades. My drink was mostly yellow with some blue/green parts to it. The whipped cream had some yellow, red and blue from the dusted powder.

When I looked at the Tie-Dye Frappuccinos on Instagram under #tiedyefrappuccino, most people’s drinks were predominantly yellow just like mine.

How does the Starbucks Tie-Dye Frappuccino Taste?

In general, these types of item launches from Starbucks are meant to generate buzz for the brand for its novelty factor rather than to appeal to the average Starbucks drinker.

The drink tasted to me like banana candy with some tropical notes to it. On some sips, it definitely tasted a bit medicinal. Overall, I found it to be more drinkable than the Starbucks Unicorn and the Starbucks Witch’s Brew. It was interesting to try one company’s interpretation of tie-dye in a drinkable format. Still just a once a while sort of thing rather than everyday Starbucks drink. Rating: 3/5
