Ling Kitchen & Bar Brings Northern Chinese Dining To The Seawall

Ling Kitchen & Bar is a new restaurant along the seawall by the Burrard Bridge, bringing Northern Chinese flavours to a scenic part of Vancouver.

The restaurant comes from the same team behind Cai’s Chinese Cuisine, with sister restaurants in West Vancouver, Richmond, and Surrey. At Ling Kitchen & Bar, the setting felt like a big part of the experience. On a warm day, the patio would be the place to sit, with views of people walking along the seawall and boats passing by on the water.

I always enjoy dining near the water, especially when the meal feels relaxed enough to take in the surroundings. This visit had that kind of pace. It was a mix of shared dishes, warm noodles, dumplings, and a few items that brought a bit of tableside interest to the meal.

The Menu

Ling Kitchen & Bar’s menu focuses on Xi’an-style comfort food, hand-pulled noodles, dumplings, hot pot, and cold appetizers.

Highlights include stewed pork burger, wontons in duck broth or sour and spicy broth, pan-fried buns, and dumplings with fillings like shrimp and pork, beef and onion, lamb and carrot, and vegetarian options.

The noodle section features hand-pulled noodles with cumin lamb, hot oil, tomato and egg, pork zha jiang, and pickled chilli with pork intestine and tripe. There are also noodle soups with stewed beef, lamb, beef tripe, and sour and spicy broth.

Hot pot is a major part of the menu, with duck soup and prime lamb options, plus individual hot pots served with meat, vegetables, tofu, mushrooms, bean vermicelli, and hand-pulled noodles.

For dessert, there are honey fried doughnut twists and mango sago, while the drinks list includes wine, Chinese spirits, sake, soju, and makgeolli.

What I Tried

The Prime Lamb Hotpot came with a platter of vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, bean vermicelli, and sliced lamb. It was a comforting dish for the table, especially with the noodles being hand-pulled tableside at the end. I liked how the hotpot gave everyone something to reach for, making the meal feel more communal.

The Pork & Chinese Cabbage Dumplings were simple and familiar in the best way. The filling had a savoury, home-style quality, and the cabbage added moisture without taking over. I would order these again as an easy starter to share.

The Spicy Hot-Oil Noodle With Tomato & Fried Egg had hand-pulled noodles tossed with chilli oil, garlic, scallion, tomato, and egg. This was one of the dishes I kept going back to. The noodles had a satisfying chew, while the tomato and egg softened the heat from the chilli oil.

The Red Hood Mocktail was made with guava, raspberry, lemon, and soda. It was fruity and bright, with enough acidity to keep it refreshing. I liked having this beside the richer dishes.

The Stewed Pork Burger featured Chinese herb-braised pork belly tucked into a house-made flat bun. The pork was tender and savoury, while the bun kept the bite casual and easy to enjoy. It felt like the kind of item that would work well as a snack or as part of a larger table of dishes.

The Honey Fried Doughnut Twists were served with honey, milk, and cheese foam. This brought a sweeter finish to the meal. The fried dough had a fun, nostalgic feel, and the cheese foam added a creamy note without making it too rich.

The Cold Dish Platter included a chef’s selection of assorted vegetables and meats, such as sesame sauce spinach, braised beef shank, pickled radish, and shredded potato salad. I liked starting with this because it gave the table a variety of textures and flavours before the warmer dishes arrived.

Overall, Ling Kitchen & Bar offered a calm and scenic place to try Northern Chinese dishes by the water. The patio setting, hand-pulled noodles, hotpot, and dumplings made the meal feel relaxed and shareable. It is the kind of restaurant I would keep in mind for a casual group meal near the seawall.
