Metro Vancouver March 2019 Events, Openings and Menu Launches

March 1 – end of April: Chocolate Laboratory Afternoon Tea and Dessert Lounge at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver
Notch8 takes on the role of ‘mad scientist’ with a decadent twist on a classic tradition. Guests can enjoy cocktails and sweets in the pop-up chocolate dessert lounge.

Chocolate Laboratory Afternoon Tea runs now until April 28th, 2019, with sittings Thursdays – Sundays at 11am, 1pm & 3pm. Adults $59, Children $29.5 (ages 12& under).

Chocolate Laboratory Dessert Lounge runs Friday and Saturday evenings from March 1st – April 27th, 2019, from 7pm – 10pm.

March 5 – 31: Blossom at Metropolis
From March 5 to 31, Metropolis at Metrotown‘s Grand Court is presenting Blossom at Metropolis, a stunning, one-of-a-kind art installation made up of 250,000+ ‘cherry blossoms’.

March 9 & 10: Subway Canada Interactive Game Zone at Metropolis
Try your hand at securing a high score in an interactive game zone hosted by Subway Canada to celebrate the sandwich chain’s Subway MyWay® Rewards program.  The game zone, located at Metropolis at Metrotown, will be open March 9 (10:00 a.m. – 6 p.m) to March 10 (10:00 a.m. – 6:30 pm) and will feature two arcade games including Hungry Hannah, a custom designed game from Subway® – and a chance to win Subway® prizing.

March 11 – 22: Joe Fortes’ Blue Plate Bonanza
Joe Fortes’ beloved Blue Plate Bonanza is back March 11 – 22 during lunch service Monday to Friday. There are five options at $12.95 each and guests can also make it a three-course meal for an extra $10.

March 11 – 22: $1 Food Festival by Ritual Mobile App
Toronto-based mobile pickup app Ritual has now launched in Vancouver. To celebrate, they are running a $1 Food Festival for two weeks from March 11 – 22, 2019 where you can order the most popular items for only $1 at dozens of restaurants. March 12: IHOP International Pancake Day
IHOP is celebrating its sixth Annual IHOP National Pancake Day on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from 7 am to 7 pm. Guests are invited to enjoy a free short stack of IHOP’s world famous buttermilk pancakes in exchange for leaving a donation of any size.

March 15 – 31: Celtic Crawl in Lower Lonsdale
Lower Lonsdale The Shipyards District is taking St. Patrick’s Day to a whole new level with CELTIC CRAWL and the Xplorer APP. This innovative augmented reality experience has players “capturing” and sharing photographs of themselves with virtual Shipyards’ leprechauns and playing trivia and limerick games all in the hopes of winning prizes by visiting participating Lower Lonsdale eateries from March 15-31, 2019.

Players register and download the new APP at xplorershipyards.com. By pointing a smart phone at the table at one of the participating restaurants or pubs, a leprechaun will appear, and jump around the table. By capturing the leprechaun with a mobile phone, players are entered to win prizes such as a pair of Dayton boots ($850 value), jewelry from Celtic Creations ($600-800 value), a gift basket of assorted items from Lower Lonsdale businesses ($500 value) and a haircut, colour & blow dry service package from Elianes Hair Spa (approx $300 value).

March 21: BCPMA Healthy Chef Competition 2019
The BC Produce Marketing Association Healthy Chef Competition makes its 20th annual return on March 20, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver. 10 restaurants will create an array of meals where fresh produce ingredients are the stars of the plate. This event is open to public and tickets are $90. 500+ guests are expected to be in attendance. Read more here.

March 22: Strathcona Beer Company Brewmaster’s Dinner hosted by Burnaby’s Hart House Restaurant
Enjoy a five-course menu by Hart House paired with beers from Strathcona Beer Company. The evening’s cuisine will emphasize local ingredients that complement the BC craft beers. Details here.

March 24: Healthy Family Expo
Canada’s largest food and health event for families, Healthy Family Expo, makes its return to Vancouver Sunday, March 24th, 2019 at the Vancouver Convention Centre (East Buildingat 999 Canada Place Way). More details in my post here.

March 25: Medina WaffleGram
Café Medina is offering aMedina WaffleGram package available for delivery throughout Vancouver’s downtown core on International Waffle Day, Monday, March 25.

Each Medina WaffleGram package includes six of Café Medina’s signature Liège waffles, one 125-mL jar of either milk chocolate lavender or raspberry caramel topping, a limited-edition gold-coloured waffle pin, a Medina matchbox, a personalized message and delivery within Vancouver’s downtown core for $39.99 plus tax, with $5 from each package donated to the BC Hospitality Foundation.

March 27: Between the Buns Crawl
Tantalize your taste buds at a selection of restaurants/establishments in the East Village/Hastings Sunrise area of East Van. This evening tasting extravaganza is on Wednesday March 27 from 6pm until 10pm and is presented by Vancouver Foodster. Tickets are $30 – $55.

March 28: Water Street Cafe x Hillside Winery Collaborative Dinner
The evening is hosted by the team at Hillside Winery, paired with Water Street’s own Chef Alan Tse’s latest wine dinner menu. Each dish is crafted to pair perfectly with each Hillside wine selection. Tickets are $88 and feature 6 wines and a 6-course paired menu. Details here.

March 28: Tacofino x Tofino Brewing Company
Tacofino will team up with Tofino Brewing Company for a five-course dinner at the Hastings location. Offering two seatings at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., the dinner will pair a multi-course menu of Tacofino’s signature Baja-by-way-of-West-Coast cuisine prepared by Regional Executive Chef Stefan Hartmann and Hastings Head Chef Daniel Echeverría with a range of unique and exclusive Tofino Brewing Company beer. Tickets are $55.

March 28: Gastown Cocktail Crawl
The Gastown Cocktail Crawl presented by Vancouver Gourmet Club is happening March 28, 2019. This unique cocktail and food pairing experience showcases three of the best restaurants/bars in Gastown. Early Bird tickets are $42.95 while Regular tickets are $49.95 Find out more here.

March 30: Earth Hour in Vancouver

March 31: Paella Dinner at Boulevard
Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar hosts a one-night-only Paella Dinner. Tickets are $68 and includes a glass of Boulevard’s house sangria followed by a three-course dinner with the restaurant’s Spanish-inspired West Coast Paella — comprising a bounty of Pacific octopus, local clams and mussels, prawns and chorizo sofrito simmered in a saffron and shellfish stock — as the centerpiece.
