Westin Bayshore’s H2 Rotisserie & Bar Now Open

The Westin Bayshore has just opened a new vibrant on-site eatery.  Meet H2 Rotisserie & Bar, a modern restaurant and bar which highlights rotisserie, local producers, distillers and craft beer-makers.  Its location at the edge of Stanley Park, overlooking Coal Harbour and the North Shore mountains, makes it an ideal and inviting spot to dine.  H2 has replaced the Seawall Bar & Grill and Currents Restaurant and can accommodate 162 seats inside and 70 outside in its garden patio.  I was recently invited to attend a media event where we sampled much of what H2 has to offer.

Disclosure:  All food and drinks in this review were complimentary.  Opinions are my own.

H2 Rotisserie & Bar is named for the pairs of things that are integral to the vibe of the restaurant: Heat (from the rotisserie) & Hops (from the beer), Hoots & Hollers (from joyful guests), and Heights & Harbour (visible through the windows).  Diners at H2 can expect to be enticed by the scent of spice-rubbed Abbotsford chickens roasting on its rotisserie.  Signature dishes include a Tomahawk for Two, Sea to Fork Linguine, West Coast Crab Cakes, Pulled Chicken Hot Wing Sliders and Golden Ears Cheescrafter Fried Cheese Curds.

Dining al fresco in their beautiful garden patio, I tried a variety of dishes as you can seen from my collection in the photo below!  Their Maple Hill Farms House Rotisserie Chicken features chicken that are free run, antibiotic free and hormone-free.  The Tomahawk delighted many attendees and was Certified Angus Beef (antibiotic- and hormone-free) served with a trio of mustards, sea salts, herb chimchurri, and classic bearnaise sauce.

The charcuterie and cheese selection was plentiful ranging from local charcuterie, berkshire mountain ham, milani and red wine salami, triple fennel cured sausage and prosciutto, pork pate, little Qualicum brie and bleu claire cheeses.

You can also get into the spirits at H2 with their creative menu of craft cocktails.  One being offered is the Dr. Sun Yet-Sen Remedy (black moon smoked rosemary gin, white tea syrup, lemon juice, teapot bitters).  Happy Hour is daily 3 – 5 pm (food and drinks) and 10 pm – close (drinks only).

And as a dessert lover, I had to try all of their desserts.  Chocolate lovers would enjoy a Potted Chocolate Mousse with a chocolate cookie crumble.  I also was impressed with the No One Does It Better Layered Carrot Cake with was moist and had not overly sweet.  It was a carrot ginger cake with orange cream cheese icing and sugar spiced pecans.

And for some childhood-inspired treats, there was the S’Mores, Hold The Campfire which featured skillet s’mores, melted milk chocolate over torched marshmallows and graham cracker.

H2 is also introducing Al Fresco Long Table Dinners, weekly Sunday Suppers, and chef-led cooking classes.  The informality of H2 will be a treat for businesspeople, families and groups of friends who gather here, whether they live in Vancouver or are guests of the Westin Bayshore hotel.

Overall Impression

I enjoyed the casual, welcoming atmosphere of H2 Rotisserie & Bar and their tantalizing rotisserie offerings.  Their rotisserie-focused concept sets them apart from hotel restaurants in town.  I recommend visiting them this summer particularly to take advantage of their beautiful garden patio.
