Weekend Brunch at Bacchus Restaurant

For your next upscale dining adventure, you might just want to head Bacchus Restaurant.  Located within the Wedgewood Hotel, Bacchus Restaurant exudes an elegance that compliments the luxuriousness of the hotel.  Friendly to hotel guests as well as locals, Bacchus is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner as well as afternoon tea and weekend brunch.  The lounge menu is available from mid-afternoon till late.  This past weekend, I was invited for a tasting of their brunch menu; this would be the first time I have visited the hotel and the restaurant.

What We Tried

On the tasting, my husband and I tried the following:

  • Sparkling wine
  • Scone & roll
  • Latte
  • Buttermilk waffles with extra seasonal berries
  • Bacchus corned beef hash with an extra egg and side of bacon

We started off the brunch with some sparkling wine.

And then we were offered at tableside some bread of our choosing.  We went with a cheese scone and roll which were very light, airy and delicious.

The latte came in a large mug and had a good balance between espresso and milk flavours.  I was impressed with the latte art as it stayed around for quite a while.

The buttermilk waffles with seasonal berries were a simple, sweet and satisfying brunch entree.  The waffle was light and fluffy in texture.  It was then topped with fresh strawberries, raspberries and blueberries,

And then to add some extra oomph, of course, a drizzle of pure Quebec maple syrup.

The other entree we tried was the corned beef hash which had two poached eggs, home-fried potatoes, peppers, and onions.  The short rib pieces were tender and flavourful while the potatoes were crispy on the outside.  I had asked for an extra poached egg with the dish.  An excellent choice for a savoury brunch item.

To finish off, we tried the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was recommended by our server.  The cake was moist, hot and sinfully gooey.  I loved drizzling that extra caramel sauce onto the cake and then dipping a morsel into the vanilla bean ice cream.  The brandy snap was a nice, tasty touch that added some more texture to the overall dessert.

Service

The service at Bacchus was outstanding and not just because I was on a media tasting.  Our server was polite, checked on us frequently, and was knowledgeable with the menu.  I had observed that he treated customers at surrounding tables just as well as he did to us.

Overall Impression of Bacchus Restaurant

In terms of dining in an exquisite atmosphere with impeccable service, Bacchus Restaurant does not disappoint.  You definitely get the feeling of being treated like VIP.  The food was excellent but the classy and refined atmosphere made the experience very memorable.
