Events

April 1 – 30: One Pizza, One Tree for Earth Day
Rocky Mountain Flatbread is on a mission to make a difference with their One Pizza, One Tree for Earth Day commitment. They have partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects, a non profit organization that will hire impoverished villagers at fair wages to plant the trees in a deforested country such as Mozambique. One tree will be planted for every pizza bought at Rocky Mountain Flatbread’s Vancouver locations during the month of April.

April 2: Ancora False Creek Wines of Portugal Dinner
Ancora Waterfront Dining and Patio will pair their signature Peruvian-Japanese ‘Nikkei’ style of cuisine with an array of Portugal’s most celebrated wines when the restaurant hosts a one-night-only wine dinner at their False Creek location on Tuesday, April 2.  Tickets are $150.

April 5: Origo Club hosts Paulée Grand Cru Burgundy Dinner
Origo Club will be hosting a ‘La Paulée’-style dinner, with all the accompanying cheering, singing, sharing, and celebrating. For the first time in Vancouver, fellow connoisseurs and Burgundian enthusiasts will be invited to share one or more bottles of their prized Burgundian Grand Cru with the table. The event is $300/person for the food only and includes taxes, gratuities and a taxi ride home. Event starts at 6:30 pm.

April 6 – 28: H Tasting Lounge Celebrates Cherry Blossom Festival
From April 6 to 28, H Tasting Lounge complements its classic afternoon tea service with a limited-time Sakuras in Bloom fresh sheet boasting Japanese elevations. Two special tea blends from Tealeaves — the savoury Tencha Matcha High Energy; and the aromatic, lightly sweet Cherry Blossom Green — are accompanied by fresh-baked scones with house-made condiments, prosciutto croissant and smoked-salmon tea sandwiches, Japanese red-bean pancakes, and matcha mochi balls.

Two exquisite, handcrafted cocktails are served during dinner service, and weekend afternoon tea service from April 6 to 28 to help you sip in the season. For an energizing concoction, there is the gin-based Midori Kokonattsu, infused with the flavours of matcha, coconut, and white chocolate. Or, indulge in the 5 Centimeters a Second cocktail, combining pisco, lemon, cherry blossom, and green tea. The name of this fruit-forward libation was inspired by the average length of time it takes for a Cherry Blossom petal to fall from the tree branch.

H Tasting Lounge’s tea service is offered on weekends from 12 to 5pm for $55 per person. Dinner service is daily from 5pm until midnight. For reservations, visit htastinglounge.com or call 604.691.6962.

April 7: Paella Dinner at Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar
Beginning with a reception at 6 p.m. the all-star team at Boulevard will conjure up the flavours of one of Spain’s most iconic dishes when it hosts a Paella Dinner in its elegant downtown dining room on Sunday, April 7. Guests will enjoy a glass of Boulevard’s house sangria followed by a Spanish-inspired three-course dinner. Boulevard’s Paella Dinner is $68 per person with reservations required and can be made by calling the restaurant at 604-642-2900.

April 8: Wildebeeste x Canoe Collaborative Dinner
Wildebeest Executive Chef Ian McHale will reunite with a like-minded culinary colleague who shares his philosophy of incorporating locally sourced, seasonal ingredients when he welcomes Chef de Cuisine Ron McKinlay of Toronto’s critically acclaimed Canoe for a collaborative dinner at the Gastown hotspot on Monday, April 8. Tickets are $99.

April 8-12: Rendez-Vous Gourmet Quebec menu at PICA
The Bistro at the Pacific Culinary Institute of Arts (PICA) will be serving a special Rendez-Vous Gourmet Quebec menu available April 8 – 12 for lunch, 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and dinner from 6 pm onwards. Reservations can be made by calling 604.734.0101 or by visiting www.bistro101.com.

April 12: Southern Pride Chicken at Juke Fried Chicken
Juke Fried Chicken will get loud and proud with ‘Southern Pride Chicken’ on Friday, April 12. Beginning at 10 p.m. at Juke’s Chinatown location, the event the will feature drag-themed cocktails, canapés, a three-course Southern-style family feast and live drag queen performances by Vancouver’s Kendall Gender and Calgary’s Perla Coddington. A limited number of general admission tickets are available here for $59. Partial proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to QMUNITY.

April 12: Southern Pride Chicken at Juke Fried Chicken
Juke Fried Chicken will get loud and proud with ‘Southern Pride Chicken’ on Friday, April 12. Beginning at 10 p.m. at Juke’s Chinatown location, the event the will feature drag-themed cocktails, canapés, a three-course Southern-style family feast and live drag queen performances by Vancouver’s Kendall Gender and Calgary’s Perla Coddington. April 13: Mijune Pak x BETA5 Meet & Greet + Bar Tasting
Mijune Pak, Top Chef Canada Judge, launches limited edition chocolate bars with award-winning chocolatier, BETA5. Starting Wednesday, April 10, customers can enjoy the Kaya Toast and Yin Yeung Cha flavours that were developed together with Adam Chandler, by visiting BETA5 Chocolates at their Vancouver, BC store and online (https://shop.beta5chocolates.com). Mijune will be at BETA5’s shop at 413 Industrial Ave in Vancouver, BC on Saturday, April 13 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m for a special meet & greet and tasting of the bars.

April 14: Oregon Wine Dinner at Tuc Craft Kitchen
Tuc Craft Kitchen will give guests a taste of Oregon’s celebrated Willamette Valley when it welcomes Robert and Ellen Brittan of Brittan Vineyards to the Gastown restaurant for an exclusive wine dinner on Sunday, April 14. The event will pair Chef/Co-Owner Roy Flemming’s signature brand of rustic comfort food with a selection of rare and prized Brittan Vineyards wines during a five-course menu. A limited amount of tickets are available at $95 per person plus taxes and gratuity and can be purchased online here.

April 15: Hands-on Cook-off contest
The Hands-on Cook-off contest returns from April 15th to May 15th and is celebrating its tenth anniversary this spring. The contest promotes the family dinner movement in BC by encouraging participants of all ages to reap the benefits of cooking together, eating together, and most importantly, making lasting memories together in the kitchen. April 17: Water Street Cafe and Stag’s Hollow Winery Wine Maker Dinner

April 23 – 28: New Food Cart – NaMì
To celebrate its launch, the first 50 customers on April 23 will receive a free bánh mì. The cart will also be serving up a special $5 bánh mì throughout the first week of service, April 23 to 28. Read more here.

April 25: Tacofino x East Van Brewing Company 
Tacofino will team up with East Van Brewing for a five-course dinner at the Hastings location. Offering two seatings at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., the dinner will pair a multi-course menu of Tacofino’s signature Baja-by-way-of-West-Coast cuisine prepared by Regional Executive Chef Stefan Hartmann and Hastings Head Chef Daniel Echeverría with a range of unique and exclusive East Van Brewing beer. Tickets are $55.

April 28: Festa della Polenta at Di Beppe
On Sunday, April 28, Di Beppe in Gastown will pay homage to its roots by hosting a Tuscan-inspired “Festa della Polenta” dinner with two seatings offered at 5 pm and 8 pm. Tickets are available here. Read more about it here.


New Openings

April 5: Save-On-Foods River District Grand Opening
The new River District Save-On-Foods location (8550 River District Crossing) includes a wide variety of made-in-store meal solutions from the Save-On-Foods Kitchen such as a mix & match Wing Bar, fresh sushi and signature salads, as well as a selection of hot ready-to-eat or take and bake pizza. In addition to an in-store pharmacy and a variety of local products on the shelves, it will also offer online shopping same-day pickup.

April 6: Joe Fortes’ Rooftop Patio Opens
Beginning Saturday, April 6th (weather permitted), guests are invited to enjoy new cocktails and the restaurant’s signature seafood fare on this rooftop garden oasis every day the sun shines. Read more here.

April 11: D/6 Rooftop Patio Opens
D/6 Bar & Lounge’s urban rooftop patio is set to open on Thursday, April 11th!  Since it’s grand opening last year, the patio has been fitted with it’s own fully-stocked outdoor bar, and a fully enclosed area suited for patio goers rain or shine. Read more here.

April 20: Earls Station Square

April 23: New Food Cart – NaMì
NaMì, offering a variety of grab-and-go Vietnamese fare, will be parked at 700 Granville Street (corner of West Georgia and Granville) in Downtown Vancouver beginning Tuesday, April 23. The food cart will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Read more here.


New Menu Launches

  • Spiritea, a modern tea house in Richmond serving fruit and milk teas made with all-natural fruit, has just relaunched their popular seasonal drink: Super Pom Fruitea. Read more here.
  • The Sandbar on Granville Island has opened an Oyster Bar. Read more here.
  • Boulevard has introduced new brunch menu dishes available every weekend from 10 am – 3pm. Highlights from the new menu include: chowder vol-au-vent (flaky puff pastry, smoked black cod, local clams, potatoes, dill); French omelette (wild local shrimp, crème fraîche, cured salmon roe, dill); huevos rancheros (corn tortillas, sunny side up eggs, pico de gallo, guajillo chili sauce, braised smoked ham hock, avocado, cilantro); and avocado toast (smoked tomatoes, frisée, pickled cipollini onions, house-made focaccia, olive oil, Dungeness crab and prawns available as add-ons).
  • Temper Chocolate & Pastry has a few new bakery items: sourdough baguette; oat and walnut loaf; yogurt parfait made with vanilla Greek yogurt, seasonal berry compote, and in-house made granola; black forest cake made with sweet cherry-infused Barvarian cream (gluten free); cassis and chocolate cake (gluten free); and milk chocolate and salted caramel cake (gluten free).
