Pop Bar at Metropolis Metrotown is Now Open

Foodies, there’s a new place in town for you to get your sugar fix. Pop Bar, which specializes in handcrafted gelato, is now open at Metrotown. Social media is abuzz with photos and news of these beautiful gelatos on a stick. I popped by yesterday to see what the hype was all about.

Metropolis Metrotown

The Metrotown Pop Bar is located across the Superstore and takes over the space formerly occupied by Beard Papa’s. A New-York founded company, this is the second location in Canada with the first one being at West Edmonton Mall. Other international locations include the US, Russia, South Korea, Indonesia and Japan.

All their products are all natural, preservative free and made fresh daily. Their tasty array of treats include the popSorbetto, popGelato, yogurtPop, ultimate double shake, hot chocolate on a stick, frozen hot chocolate, and popaccino. You can customize each treat with unlimited dippings and poppings for $0.50 each. This range of products has given me many bar menu ideas to try at home for myself!

The popGelato, popSorbetto, and YogurtPops are completely gluten free. Dippings and poppings are also gluten free except for the Crushed Waffle Cone Popping.

Some of the flavours available when I visited yesterday included dulce de leche, orange, strawberry, blood orange and green tea to name a few.

The dipping was a premium dark chocolate. For poppings, there was almond, hazelnut, pistachio, coconut, caramel corn, chocolate sprinkles and waffle cone.

What I Tried

My delectable treat was a green tea popGelato dipped in chocolate and with hazelnut, pistachio, and coconut poppings. It came out to be $5.76 including tax. I was impressed with how well the poppings stayed on the popGelato such that not much fell off as I was walking away. Furthermore, the popGelato stayed frozen for a lot longer than a regular scoop of gelato; it survived my mini photoshoot without melting away considerably. The green tea flavour was on point but what was most delicious were the poppings: they were super crunchy and tasty. Yum!

This must be…pop! #popbar #matcha #stpatricksday

Overall Impression of Pop Bar

My green tea popGelato with chocolate dipping and assorted poppings did not disappoint. The poppings were so crunchy and delicious and were really the highlight for me. A little pricey for what you get for sure ($6) but I’d recommend giving popBar a try for the novely and flavour. Rating: 3.5/5
