I recently saw on social media that Original Cupcakes was having an Easter contest. They would post a photo of a location where voucher for a free regular cupcake would be left. On one particular day, I recognized the location which was Burrard station. Luckily, I managed to get there in time and successfully find the voucher. I was excited to try out a cupcake from Original Cupcakes for the first time.
Original Cupcakes Story
Original Cupcakes was founded by Heather and Lori, two women from BC who had been best friends since high school. Their first bakery was on Denman and has expanded to 8 other locations in BC and one in Toronto.
A single classic cupcake is $3.50 and there are volume discounts. Mini cupcakes are 6 for $10. Deluxe cupcakes are $4.50 while a “big one” is $10! I must say, $10 is a lot to spend on one cupcake!
What I Tried / Easter Offerings
I redeemed the voucher for a Blue Hawaii which is a coconut cake with blue vanilla buttercream.
At the same time, I saw that they had adorable Easter-themed cupcakes. I could not resist buying the cutest one (in my opinion) – a sheep with multicolored marshmallows! Other styles included Easter eggs and chicks. All of the Easter-themed cupcakes are $5.
Now let’s talk taste. The cupcakes were very moist and fluffy but they did taste artificial. For the sheep cupcake, the marshmallows were pretty secure and did not fall off as I transported it home.
Overall Impression of Original Cupcakes
From what I have tried, the cupcakes have a nice texture but artificial taste. However, I really like the design for their Easter-themed cupcakes. At a minimum of $3 for a regular cupcake, it is a bit pricey for what you get. Not something I would regularly indulge in. Rating: 3/5
