White Spot Pirate Pak Day 2019: August 14, 2019

August 8, 2019 by foodgressing Leave a Comment

White Spot is giving adults a chance to be a kid again while supporting a worthy cause on its annual Pirate Pak Day 2019 on Wednesday, August 14.

White Spot Pirate Pak Day 2019: August 14, 2019

For one day only, $2 from each Pirate Pak sold at all 64 White Spot restaurants throughout BC and Alberta will help send deserving children and young adults to White Spot Week at Zajac Ranch for Children.

It is a fully inclusive summer camp at a private, 41-acre ranch in Mission, BC where everything is accessible for children with life-threatening illnesses and chronic disabilities.

Campers have an opportunity to explore the outdoors while developing greater social and environmental awareness, increased self-confidence, and positive attitudes towards physical activity.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Pirate Pak Day has raised $780,776 since its inception and has sent more than 400 children to White Spot Week.

On August 14, Pirate Paks are available for both dine-in and take-out, with adults able to customize their Pirate Pak with the choice of:

  • Legendary Burger
  • BC Chicken Burger
  • Bacon Cheddar Burger
  • Veggie Burger
  • Dippin’ Chicken
  • The White Spot Club
  • The Spot’s Fish & Chips
  • Nat’s Original Beef Dip
White Spot Pirate Pak Day 2019: August 14, 2019

Normally only available to kids aged 10 and under, each Pirate Pak is served in the famous buccaneers’ boat and includes fresh-cut ‘endless’ Kennebec fries, creamy coleslaw, choice of soft drink, premium rich ice cream, and the treasured ‘gold’ coin that has served as the booty since founder Nat Bailey created the iconic meal more than 50 years ago.

White Spot Pirate Pak Day 2019: August 14, 2019

In 2018, almost a million Pirate Paks were ordered at White Spot restaurants, including 53,719 alone on Pirate Pak Day.

Since making its debut on the White Spot menu in 1968, more than 24 million Pirate Paks have been sold. Today, Pirate Pak boats are 100% recyclable and compostable and offer hundreds of menu combinations, including vegetarian options.

White Spot Blueberry Pie Bundle 2019: Legendary Burger, Salad, and Pie

July 27, 2019 by foodgressing Leave a Comment

It’s back, Like short shorts and sunburns: White Spot Blueberry Pie Bundle!

Whitespot Blueberry Pie Bundle 2019: Legendary Burger, Salad and Pie

The bundle includes a Legendary Burger, The Spot’s Salad & fresh BC Blueberry Pie for $15.99.

Whitespot Blueberry Pie Bundle 2019: Legendary Burger, Salad and Pie

You can also add a personal-sized fresh blueberry pie to any entree for $3.00 or try it on its own for $4.99.

Whitespot Blueberry Pie Bundle 2019: Legendary Burger, Salad and Pie

Whitespot also has a few blueberry-focused drinks in alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties.

We enjoyed the Blueberry Milkshake and Very Berry Frozen Lemonade. The best part is that they give you extra milkshake on the side as the milkshake glass is smaller than the amount they make on order.

Whitespot Blueberry Pie Bundle 2019: Legendary Burger, Salad and Pie
Whitespot Blueberry Pie Bundle 2019: Legendary Burger, Salad and Pie

I didn’t know this before but White Spot buys more local ingredients than any other full-service restaurant chain in BC.

For example, the blueberries are from the Fraser Valley; the salad greens are local; the tomatoes are from Delta, BC; the eggs are BC farm-fresh and so forth. Always great to support local!

White Spot Beyond Burger [Review]

April 14, 2019 by foodgressing Leave a Comment

On April 15, White Spot will be launching a new 100% plant-based item to the menu: the White Spot Avocado Beyond Burger.

What is The Beyond Burger Meat Patty?

The Beyond Burger is the world’s first plant-based burger patty. It looks, cooks, and tastes like beef but is 100% plant-based. Each 4 oz. patty contains 20 g of 100-percent plant-based protein and is made without GMOs, soy, gluten, antibiotics or hormones.

The plant-based ingredients in a Beyond patty include the following:

  • peas, mung bean, and brown rice for protein
  • trace amounts of beet and pomegranate lend the meaty red color
  • coconut oil and potato starch ensure juiciness and chew

White Spot Beyond Burger Ingredients

The fully-composed White Spot Beyond Burger features fresh avocado, pickled onions, roasted corn, lettuce, tomato, Jalapeño ranch and edamame hummus. It is chargrilled and served with a choice of Caesar salad, The Spot’s salad, or creamy coleslaw and ‘endless’ signature Kennebec fries.

Price

The price of White Spot Beyond Burger is $17.49 in British Columbia and $18.49 in Alberta.

Guests can also substitute the Beyond Burger patty in any of White Spot’s signature burgers for $1.99. You can also make it a lettuce wrap at no additional charge or substitute a gluten-free bun for only $1.

Availability

The White Spot Beyond Burger is available at all full-service White Spot restaurants in BC and Alberta starting April 15.

Beginning May 6, the White Spot Beyond Burger will also be available at White Spot’s quick-service brand Triple O’s. It will appear in a new Beyond Original signature burger as well as a limited-edition Mushroom Avocado Beyond Burger.

300 FREE Avocado Beyond Burgers on April 15

In celebration of the launch of its new menu, White Spot will be giving away 300 FREE Avocado Beyond Burgers from the White Spot food truck.

The food truck will be parked in the Easypark lot at the corner of Cambie and West Georgia (688 Cambie Street, Vancouver) starting at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 15.

There is a limit of one burger per person and on a first-come, first-served basis.

How Did I Like The White Spot Beyond Burger?

I had the opportunity to preview the White Spot Beyond Burger at a media event recently. I’ve had Beyond Burgers elsewhere in the past and expected the same type of juiciness, meaty deliciousness as before.

To start, my burger was beautifully stacked with layers. It was certainly very tasty at first bite and you definitely don’t miss the meat! The vegetables were crispy and fresh. Avocado and corn are some of my favourite fixings so I’m happy that the burger incorporates them already.

The burger also has edamame hummus which I have never tried before. Compared to the chickpea version, I found the edamame hummus to be lighter, just as creamy and quite refreshing.

Overall, two thumbs up for the White Spot Beyond Burger. Be sure to try it on your next visit to White Spot.

Southwest Power Bowl

The revolutionary Beyond Burger patty will also be featured as part of White Spot’s new Southwest Power Bowl your choice of protein (Beyond Meat patty, blackened fresh BC Chicken, Oceanwise Wild Pacific Sockeye salmon or Oceanwise sauteed garlic prawns) with fresh avocado, cherry tomatoes, radish, roasted corn & cabbage.

Served with quinoa and jasmine rice with greens. Jalapeño ranch & edamame hummus. Chargrilled, 100% plant-based.

White Spot Christmas Charity Luncheon 2017

January 6, 2018 by foodgressing Leave a Comment

This past Christmas, White Spot locations at Kingsway in Vancouver and Richmond Centre opened for lunch on Christmas Day to raise much needed funds for two local charities.  2017 marked the 16th consecutive year for this yuletide tradition.  This year’s fundraiser generated $12,488 at Richmond Centre and $8,894 at Kingsway Vancouver for the Richmond Hospital Foundation and Variety – The Children’s Charity, respectively.  Since its inception, more than $222,000 has been raised by the luncheon, in which all proceeds, staff time and tips from the afternoon are donated for a good cause.

White Spot Christmas Luncheon 2017

My family and I attended the Christmas Luncheon at the Kingsway location to support the cause. We put our name down on the wait list at 11:20 am and our wait was an hour. TIP: The wait was minimal after 1 pm so it might be better to come in at the time next year!  There was also a takeout window available if you didn’t want to wait.

White Spot Christmas Luncheon 2017

Christmas Day Menu

The restaurants were open from 11 am – 3 pm and a special set menu was offered including Legendary burgers and other Spot Classics.

White Spot Christmas Luncheon 2017

What We Had

My family enjoyed the Double Double, Chicken & Mushroom Fettuccine Alfredo, and Dippin’ Chicken.

Double Double

My husband had the Double Double which was a ½ lb beef burger made with double beef patties, double cheese, lettuce, tomato, Triple “O” sauce & double dills.  He found the burger tasty but a bit too thick to eat!  A Legendary would have been a more practical choice for him.

White Spot Christmas Luncheon 2017

Chicken & Mushroom Fettuccine Alfredo

This is my go-to dish at White Spot.  It had a lemon-grilled chicken breast over fettuccine noodles tossed in a classic Parmesan cream sauce with sautéed mushrooms and spinach.  On the side was garlic panini bread.  The chicken was a sizeable piece and was very tender.  The sauce was wonderfully creamy and all the noodles were nicely coated with the sauce.  I loved the earthy flavors from the mushrooms.

White Spot Christmas Luncheon 2017

Dippin’ Chicken

My son *loved* the crispy breaded chicken tenders and honestly, adults would too!  I tried some of it and they were crazy good.  The coating was light but well-seasoned and crispy while the meat was very tender.

White Spot Christmas Luncheon 2017

Service

Despite how busy it was, staff were most certainly in the Christmas spirit and were working well together to make it all happen.  Kudos to the girls at the front who were managing the seating and the wait list.  They were friendly and put on a great attitude while managing those who were waiting.  Table service was on point as well with orders being taken, food being delivered and bill brought to us all in a timely manner.

Overall Impression

My family and I very much enjoyed our Christmas Luncheon experience at Whitespot. Aside from the food being solid White Spot quality, the meal was enhanced by the friendly demeanor of the staff.  Getting in as a large group seemed a bit challenging so I would recommend this experience for smaller parties.  I would be interested to support White Spot’s Christmas Luncheon again in the future.  Rating: 5/5

Ocean Wise Seafood Now on WhiteSpot Menu

June 21, 2017 by foodgressing Leave a Comment

Overfishing is one of the biggest threats to our oceans.  Across Canada, the Ocean Wise program and its partners make it easy for consumers to choose sustainable seafood.  Earlier this week, White Spot, Canada’s longest running restaurant chain, rolled out their inaugural Ocean Wise menu at 65 White Spot locations across BC and Alberta.  White Spot’s Ocean Wise dishes have all been paired with local wines from the restaurant’s 100% BC, VQA wine list, and beer from the BC craft beer program.  Earlier this week, I tried a few new Ocean Wise items at White Spot.

Disclosure:  All food and drinks in this review were complimentary.  Opinions are my own.

Whitespot oceanwise

I’m a huge fan of tuna tataki so I was excited to see an Ocean Wise Ahi Tuna Tataki dish at White Spot ($12.99).  The Ocean Wise Ahi tuna was seared and dressed with sesame ginger mayo.  It was garnished with edamame, green onion, radish and sesame seeds.  The tuna was seared perfectly and I loved the Asian-inspired flavours from the dressing and garnish.  The suggested beer pairing is a Lions Summer Ale by Granville Island Brewing ($6 for Sleeve).  It is a bright golden ale with fruity flavours balanced with slight tartness and subtle malts.  A perfect pairing with the tuna tataki in my opinion.

Whitespot oceanwise

Whitespot oceanwise

Also new on the Ocean Wise menu is Wild Salmon Donburi ($17.99).  This dish features a chargrilled soy glazed Sockeye salmon served over jasmine rice and red quinoa.  The garnishes were broccoli, Shimeji mushroom gomae, edamame, cucumber, radish and Campari tomatoes.  I really loved the Shimeji mushroom gomae which was very creamy in texture and nutty in flavour.  I was scrapping until the last bit of it.  The jasmine rice and red quinoa mix made for a healthier carbohydrate side than plain white rice.  The salmon was very flaky and had a slight sweet taste.  An overall light entree that won’t make you feel food comatose afterwards.  The wine pairing was a Pinot Gris by Red Rooster Winery ($6 for 6 oz); it has flavours of pear, honeydew, melon, fresh citrus and a hint of spice.

Other Ocean Wise menu items on White Spot’s menu include the Mexicali Fish Tacos, Toasted Shrimp Sandwich, Clam Chowder, and Seared Ahi Tuna Salad.   White Spot’s premium QSA brand Triple O’s also servers an Ocean Wise Fish burger along with their Fish and Chips.

New Pirate Pak at White Spot on West Georgia

February 19, 2017 by foodgressing Leave a Comment

I recently attended the media launch of the newly revamped Pirate Pak and White Spot Kids app (see post here).  This certainly got me in the mood to revisit White Spot so my family and I went to their location on West Georgia for dinner this weekend.

Disclosure:  I was provided a White Spot gift card to use as media.  Part of the meal was paid for by the gift card.

white spot vancouver

The West Georgia White Spot is in a prime Downtown Vancouver location that is close to Stanley Park.  They have their own parking lot where customers receive free parking.  The restaurant wasn’t very busy during our late dinner.  The dining room appeared to be well-maintained.

What We Tried

For our late dinner, we had the following:

  • Legendary Burger ($11.99)
  • Sriracha Portobello Veggie Burger ($13.99)
  • Pirate Pak ($7.49)

The Legendary Burger is a classic, solid choice at White Spot.  It has a traditional 1/4 pound beef burger with signature Triple “O” sauce and a pickle.  That patty with the signature sauce is oh-so-tasty.  The fries were also spot on being crispy and golden.  The coleslaw was a bland and I could do without it.

white spot legendary burger

The Sriracha Portobello Veggie Burger had a chargrilled veggie burger with Sriracha goat cheese, sauteed Portobello mushrooms, pickled onions, tomatoes, lettuce and mayo.  I thought that the veggie burger was melt-in-your-mouth delicious.  We had a Caesar salad side which was very light and could use a bit more dressing.  The lettuce seemed fresh and crunchy on bite.

white spot veggie burger

I ordered the newly revamped Pirate Pak for my son with cheese pizza, grapes, apple juice and chocolate ice cream.  My son actually enjoyed the Legendary Burger more than the cheese pizza.  I found the cheese pizza to have quite a reasonable amount of cheese and the crust was nicely crispy on the outside.  The selection of grapes was mostly sweet but there were a few that were sour.

The chocolate ice cream had a nice chocolate flavour.

This past Family Day in BC, White Spot launched this new, interactive Pirate Pak which comes with a Treasure Map.  For more information, see my post here and my Youtube demo below.

Overall Impression

White Spot is always a “spot-on” for family-friendly dining at reasonable prices, taste and quality.  The Legendary Burger is always a solid choice.  Looking forward to my next visit to White Spot!  Rating: 4/5

White Spot (Drake Street)

January 14, 2015 by foodgressing Leave a Comment

This White Spot is located within the Best Western Plus Downtown.  We actually had not tried food from White Spot in a long time, so we decided to dine there.

To start, we had onion rings served with Zoo dip.  I was pleasantly surprised that these onion rings were very good!  They were delightfully crispy with just the right amount of batter.

IMG_6620 copy

Next, we had the Nobashi prawns which are hand-pulled prawns in a light tempura style batter. They were served with sweet Thai chili sauce.  Like the onion rings, the prawns were coated with the right amount of batter and were pleasantly crispy.

P1050174a copy

I had the blackened cod and spicy tomato prawn risotto with sauteéd prawns, arugula and vine-ripened tomatoes.  This was a solid dish and the risotto was nice and creamy.  I would definitely order this again!

IMG_6624 copy

My husband had the Southwest Chorizo Hash Chorizo which included sausage sautéed with vegetables, Cheddar & Jack cheese and the White Spot signature smashbrown potatoes topped with two poached eggs. It was served with salsa, cilantro sour cream and toast.  He felt satisfied with the quality and taste of the dish.  I really liked all the mix of flavours from the sour cream, cheese, salsa and sausage.

IMG_6627 copy

Our bill came to around $50 including tax and tip and we felt satisfied from the meal.

The service was solid with our server checking back on us frequently.  The food was good and not disappointing for the price and portion size.  I would go back to any White Spot in the future for casual dining.
