Aberdeen Food Court Dessert: Mazazu Crepe

It has been over a year since I attended Taste of Aberdeen, a Chinesebites.com media extravaganza where 60 influencers indulged in 30 dishes by 20 Aberdeen Food Court vendors over 2.5 hours.  At that time, I came to know of Mazazu Crepe, one of the dessert vendors at the Aberdeen Food Court.  They specialize in dessert crepes, soft-serve cones and soft-serve parfaits at affordable prices.

At the Taste of Aberdeen event, I sampled their Choco Banana Fresh Cream Mini Crepe.   The small crepe had a banana slice with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle.  It was a very simple dessert and didn’t have much of a wow factor for me at that time.   Tasty but nothing amazing.

Fast forward to over a year later, I decided to revisit Mazazu Crepe.  The impetus for this revisit came about when I shopped at Daiso – the Japanese dollar and convenience store – and was given a coupon for 10% off for a few food vendors.  One of the vendors was Mazazu Crepe and I seized the opportunity to try more of their offerings to round out this review.

A quick review on Instagram of Mazazu Crepe posts shows that their soft-serve items are very popular.   Most notably was their soft-serve parfaits which had a mouthwatering presentation.  I ordered the matcha and strawberry parfaits ($6.50 each) to try.

The matcha parfait consisted of green tea ice cream, cornflakes, cornpops, handmade mochi, a brownie, red bean paste, and milk ice cream on the bottom.  Quite a concoction of ingredients to compose this dessert and it tasted pretty good.  The ice cream had a nice, creamy and smooth texture.  The green tea flavour could be stronger.  I quite enjoyed the large mochi balls which were smooth and chewy.  The brownie wasn’t anything special and had more of a cake texture.  I think it would have been nice to have red beans instead of a lump of red bean paste.

The strawberry parfait had a single flavour of ice cream – milk tea.  There was also a Japanese cheesecake, mochi, cornpops, cornflakes and topped with strawberry drizzle.  This parfait tasted more on the artificial side from the strawberry drizzle.  The Japanese cheesecake was more on the denser and sweeter side.

Overall Impression

The soft-serve parfaits from Mazazu Crepe were good and had lots of different ingredients that generally went well with each other.  The matcha parfait tasted less sweet and less artificial than the strawberry one.  I wouldn’t mind having the the matcha one again.  Rating: 3.5/5
