Review: Burger King Chicken Nuggets for $1.99

Last month, myself and a few other food bloggers had a disappointing and unsatisfying meal in Gastown.  After spending $40+, we were still hungry and so we ventured to another food establishment to finish our dinner.  The easiest way to fill up we decided was fast food and we came across a Burger King on West Pender.

What caught my attention was the poster outside promoting 10 piece Burger King chicken nuggets for $1.99.  As a fan of McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets, I was eager to see how Burger King’s version compared particularly since it was priced a lot cheaper.

The official Burger King description of these chicken nuggets is that they are made with tender, seasoned white meat and are lightly coated in a seasoned home-style breading.  In terms of nutrition factor, 10 pieces has 430 calories, 28 grams of fat, 23 grams of carbs, and 23 grams of protein.

When I received the nuggets, they were piping hot (a good thing).  The Burger King nuggets came in a bag unlike McDonald’s which come in a box.  The breading on the outside was crispy but the nuggets were a lot thinner compared to McDonald’s.  I found the meat to be less tender and less flavourful than McDonald’s.

The Burger King nuggets are good for the price but definitely not better than McDonald’s in terms of taste.  I would have them again as a cheap, fast and filling snack but you get what you pay for.  I still would rather go to McDonald’s and pay more for some plumper, juicier and tastier chicken nuggets.

As for this Burger King location, the service was fast which is appropriate for a Downtown core location.  Staff seemed friendly and cleanliness was the usual so-so.
