Savour Fall Flavours at Lonsdale Quay

Fall is upon us and it’s time to delight your senses with what this season has to offer. On October 22, the Lonsdale Quay Market is holding Savour, an exciting food and beverage festival where you can explore the array of fine foods at the market and meet the experts who prepare them. From locally grown produce to imported delicacies, attendees can rediscover the taste of Lonsdale Quay Market through workshops, seminars and showcase. Participation is free for all events, but pre-registration is required, and is subject to availability.

Last week, I attended a media preview of Savour where we toured the market and visited a variety of vendors. To start, we sampled some gourmet soups by The Soup Meister including Tomato Chicken Soup, Singapore Rhapsody, Italian Wedding and Barley Vegetable Soup. I loved the Italian Wedding which was hearty, full of flavour and comforting on that rainy evening. And those meatballs? To die for. Absolutely delicious.

Next, we visited Green Leaf Brewing Company where we had a tasting flight of of Bonfire Amber Ale (Seasonal), Lloyds Lager, Pie Hole Pale Ale and Animal Farm IPA. Along with this, we tried some festive offerings by Bowen Island Pizza Co.: a turkey, cranberry sauce, roasted onions and brie pizza served with a kale and roasted yam salad. I’ve never tried such a festive pizza and I am definitely interested in having it again.

We then proceeded to Sharky’s Chophouse, known for top quality meats, daily meal specials, and fresh meat pies. We were served a tender, juicy, grilled steak with roasted onions and mashed potatoes.

Our sweet stop was Olde World Confections where we observed the process for making spiced nuts and sampled some candied ginger.

To finish off a fantastic evening, we visited the Artisan Wine Shop to try the award-winning Mission Hill Reserve Riesling paired with a cracker topped with brie, pear, and walnut.
