Prior to visiting Whistler last month, I had seen a few posts by Lucia Gelato on Instagram. I had never had their made-in-Whistler gelato before so I made it a point to try them out during our family vacation. In Whistler Village, they share a space with Gnarlyroots Pizza & Cafe Restaurant, located across the Olympic Rings. However, many establishments along the Sea to Sky Corridor serve their products including grocery stores, restaurants and cafes. You can even find them at the top of Whistler mountain outside the Roundhouse Lodge and Blackcomb mountain outside the Rendezvous Lodge during the summer months.
Lucia Gelato Flavours and Sizes
Lucia Gelato is made with “milk, a touch of cream, with no artificial flavours or colouring.” Their sorbet, which is a good dairy-free option, is made with at least 50% fresh, in-season local fruit. They seem to have about 10 daily options available.
In terms of sizes, there is a kids ($3.50), regular ($5.00) and large ($6.50).
Available flavours are on display in a case.
What We Tried
I got a kid’s size Strawberry and Banana Sorbetto for my son. I was really impressed with the smooth consistent texture of the sorbetto. Sorbettos I have had from Bella Gelateria in Yaletown had some icier bits in them.
We also got a caramel macchiato and vanilla double-scoop gelato. Great smooth texture, refreshing taste and nice flavour too.
Overall Impression
I thought the gelato and sorbetto from Lucia Gelato were pretty good all in all. The sorbetto was a particular standout due to the smooth texture. Rating: 3.5/5
