While on a family vacation in Whistler last month, we did the usual stroll throughout the Whistler Village. One of the more interesting spots along the stroll has always been the Olympic Rings. It’s a fun place to people watch as visitors eagerly take photos in front of one of the lasting symbols of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Across the Olympic Rings was a cafe that I had never seen before in this area. The space was formerly W’s but is now occupied by Gnarlyroots Pizza & Cafe Restaurant. We saw that they offer pizza and had a nice outdoor patio, so we decided to grab some slices.
Gnarlyroots Pizza Menu
Gnarlyroots operates as a cafe, pizza joint and gelateria by Lucia Gelato. For their cafe menu, they offer breakfast bowls, soups, salads and more. We went for the pizza part of their restaurant which had pizza slices ready in a warmer for grab-and-go. Single slices are $3.50 and they offer various combos. For active individuals or those who have a hangover, you can get pizza combos with Gatorade or Rock Star. Gnarlyroots also has pizza specials, salads, chicken wings and more.
We went for some simple flavours, Cheese and Pepperoni. The slices were pretty decently sized and came in bamboo baskets. Bamboo baskets definitely are a one up from paper plates. Definitely fancier.
In terms of the taste, however, the pizza seemed on the drier side. This was likely due to the fact that it had been sitting in a warmer. The crust was quite thick so if you like a nice thin-crust pizza, Gnarlyroots would not be for you. All in all, the pizza was not bad but not great either.
Overall Impression
I’d say that the pizza slices from Gnarlyroots were average at best. In a way, I’d have to say that I even like Domino’s in Whistler better (see review here). Rating: 3/5
