One of the most anticipated Vancouver festivals, the Hot Chocolate Festival 2022, is making its return.

The 12th annual Hot Chocolate Festival Vancouver 2022 is happening January 15 – February 14, 2022.

49th Parallel Coffee Roasters + Lucky’s Doughnuts

 #01 – COCOA POP: Caramel popcorn hot chocolate made with 66% dark chocolate and a house-made buttery, salted caramel sauce. Served with a mini brioche doughnut filled with a buttery corn custard topped with salted caramel and caramel corn. Available January 15 – 28, 2022.  

#02 – MILK CHOCOLA-TEA: Milk tea hot chocolate made with 66% dark chocolate and house-made brown sugar tea reduction. Served with a mini brioche doughnut filled with black sesame custard and topped with a black sesame caramel. Available January 29- February 11, 2022.

À La Mode Pie Café

#03 – CARAMIA JUJUBE (GF)(DF)(V)(O): Home-made jujube fruit sauce mixed in hot chocolate – a bittersweet memory garnished with home-made Jujube S’mores. Served with a Caramia Tart – a caramelized macadamia and dulce de leche sauce in a buttery tart shell. Available January 15 – 24, 2022.

#04 – WASABI? CANNONBALL (GF)(DF)(V)(O): Wasabi? Cannonball in a shiso-rimmed hot chocolate pool. Topped with Furikake sprinkles, wasabi chantilly and instant noodles. For the side treat there is Bac’n Me Crumble Apple Pie: chocolate-dipped bacon and brown sugar crumble on top of an apple pie. Available January 25- February 3, 2022.

#05 – CAESAR’S PROPOSAL (GF)(DF)(V)(O): Tabasco meets Caesar spices in a Caesar-rimmed cup of hot chocolate garnished with white chocolate chantilly and  rose petals. For the side treat they will serve a Raspberry Love Letter Pie – fresh raspberries and vanilla custard layered in a love letter envelope-shaped pie pastry sealed with a pastry heart. Available February 5 – 14, 2022.

#06 – FLUFFERNUTTER HOT CHOCOLATE: Toasted peanut cocoa, whipped marshmallow, sourdough crumb. Served with a Fluffernutter cookie: peanut butter, marshmallow, chocolate chips. Available: January 15 – February 14, 2022.

#07 – SALTED MISO HOT CHOCOLATE: Chocolate sphere, miso powder, Vancouver Island salt, Callebaut pearls, dehydrated marshmallow, caramel. Served with a salted double chocolate chip cookie: white miso, Maldon salt, cocoa, chocolate chips. Available January 15 to February 14, 2022.

#08 – STRAWBERRY POCKY FOREVER: Drawing inspiration from the popular Strawberry Pocky snack, this sipping chocolate features Valrhona Strawberry couverture chocolate infused with a hint of sweet rose. Served with a buttery croissant – best enjoyed when dipped into this strawberry rose sipping chocolate. Available January 15 – 31, 2022.

#09 – SMOOTH LIKE BUTTER: Inspired by the popular Korean “Honey Butter Potato Chip” snack, this hot chocolate features caramelized honey butter sauce blended into Valrhona Dulcey 35% blond chocolate. Served with potato chips flavoured with caramelized cultured butter and locally sourced honey. Available February 1 – 14, 2022.

#10 – WARM & FUZZY: Hot chocolate with buttered rum. Served with a rum and dark chocolate truffle. Available January 15 – 29, 2022.

#11 – PEANUT BUTTER CUP: A blend of hot chocolate and peanut butter. Served with a caramel macaron. Available January 30 – February 14, 2022.

Bellaggio Cafe

#12 – NETFLIX AND CHILL: Dark hot chocolate flavoured with butterscotch and topped with whipped cream, popcorn and a caramel/nuts drizzle. Served with a home baked butter cookie. Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.    

#13 – FVOCO: Spicy hot chocolate with a touch of cayenne pepper, infused with star anise and cloves and topped with whipped cream and Amaretto powder. Served with a homemade shortbread cookie. Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.

#14 – THE OCD: Dark hot chocolate married with orange/cinnamon dates and topped with cream Amarena cherry and merengue crumble. Served with a homemade sugar cookie. Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.

The Bench Bakehouse

#15 – KOUIGN OF THE EMPIRE: Take a trip far away from the ordinary with a white hot chocolate infused with cardamom and orange blossom. Topped with a house made cardamom flavoured marshmallow. Pair this with a very special Baklava Kouign Amann. Our signature, buttery and brilliantly crunchy Kouign Amann, stuffed with pistachios and walnuts, soaked in cardamom and orange blossom infused honey syrup. Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.

#16 – THE POLAR VORTEX (DFO): Strawberry hot chocolate made with rich dark chocolate and fresh strawberry puree. Topped with our signature chocolate brownie. Pair this with a Strawberry Chocolate Polar Bear Claw. Our classic, flaky and buttery croissant dough in the shape of bear claws, filled with rich chocolate frangipane and house made local strawberry preserves. Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.

Beta 5 Chocolates

#17 – MONKEY BUSINESS: Caramelized white chocolate infused with banana. Served with a mini version of Beta 5’s signature banana cream pie cream puff.  Available January 15 – 21, 2022.

#18 – FISHERMAN’S FRIEND: Dark chocolate (67%) infused with menthol and eucalyptus. Served with a miniature dark chocolate cream puff infused with menthol and eucalyptus. Available January  22 – 28, 2022.

#19 – QUEEN OF HEARTS: A raspberry white chocolate infused with Earl Grey tea. Served with a mini version of Beta 5’s signature raspberry-Earl Grey cream puff.  Available January 29 – February 4, 2022.

#20 – EMERALD PARADISE: White chocolate infused with the aromatics of Thai green curry (cilantro, basil, ginger, lemongrass, lime leaf). Served with a mini version of Beta 5’s signature Thai mango cream puff.  Available February 5 – 11, 2022.

#21 – CIAO BELLA: Tiramisu hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, cocoa powder, and tiramisu ganookie bites.
On the side – tiramisu ganache-filled chocolate cookie. Note: the ganache in the cookie contains alcohol. Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.

#22 – I’D TAP THAT (GF): Maple hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and maple walnut fudge bar bites.
Served with a maple walnut fudge bar. This goodie is gluten-free but contains nuts. Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.

#23 – GONE BANANAS: A rich and creamy medley made with a blend of 54.5% dark hot chocolate and house made banana puree. With the perfect sweetness soley from fresh, ripe bananas, this combination will truly drive you bananas! (In a good way). Served with a petite sponge cake for your dipping pleasure! #24 – THE TAHINI-IAN DREAM: This rich and creamy black sesame infused dark hot chocolate is topped with a smooth layer of black sesame crema for that extra layer of richness. Served with a side of Korean rice cake covered in crushed black sesame crumble. Available January 31- February 14, 2022.

#25 – DOUBLE TROUBLE  (DFO): A heavenly blend of honey, citron, ginger and Callebaut white chocolate. Paired with a petite Banh mi (Vietnamese Sandwich). Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.

#29 – BERRY BERRY GOOD HOT CHOCOLATE: Rich and creamy hot chocolate with whipped cream and a dollop of raspberry jam. A raspberry marshmallow sits on top, ripe for the picking. Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.

#30 – BIRTHDAY CAKE  *(DFO): A white hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and coloured sprinkles. A slice of Funfetti Cake perches on top. Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.

#31 – TRACY MARTEL (GF): This tribute to a diva is a caramelized strawberry, blended milk, hot chocolate, topped with vanilla chantilly, chocolate lash and ‘blush’. (Tastes like a liquid candy bar, but better!) Served with a Strawberry Pavlova.  Available: January 15 – February 12, 2022

#32 – MAKER OF EDEN (GF): Flavours of the earth make up this dark hot chocolate blended with slow-cooked pear, figs and ginger. Served with a Pear Caramel Macaron.  Available January 15 – February 12, 2022.

#33 – BLIZZAGA (V) (GFO): Embrace the cold with this dairy-free speculoos drinking chocolate served affogato-style over an iceberg-like wedge of coconut blueberry ice cream. Look for the Walnut Snowball Cookie on the side. Available January 15 – February 12, 2022.

#34 – BREAKFAST DATE: A 35% Zephyr Caramel chocolate combined with Greek vanilla yogurt, date puree and whole milk, then topped with whipped cream and Chez Christophe’s house-made granola. Paired with a spiced, Chai Date creme brûlée Danish. Available January 15 – 28, 2022.

#35 – CHOCOMON MILK CHOCOLATE: Smooth and creamy, this 38% milk chocolate is merged with 41% Alunga milk chocolate enhanced with a hint of Fleur de Sel French sea salt, then topped with cocoa powder. Paired with a dome-shaped, 29% Blanc Satin hollow chocolate filled with colourful house-made mini marshmallows. Available January 29 – February 11, 2022.

#36 – MAKE IT A SPICY DATE  GF) (DF) (V): Dream of India with this 70% dark chocolate HC flavoured with Masala Chai Spice by The Indian Pantry and almond chai brittle. Served with a Mithai and Co Chai Date Bite. This sugar-free laddoo has dates, nuts and gluten-free oats, all spiced with a special chai spice blend and rolled in crushed pistachios. #37 – MISO WANT A SNOW DAY: A blend of 41% milk chocolate, VanKoji miso, whipped cream, shaved chcocolate and miso caramel bites. Served with a Mithai & Co Snowball Bite featuring coconut laddoo filled with caramel ganache and a toasted hazelnut in the centre. Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.

#38 – THE ANNIE OAKLEY: Inspired by the legendary sharpshooter, known for her sweet and salty personality, this milk hot chocolate is infused with salty butter toffee and candied ginger. #39 – LA ADELITA: Inspired by Adela Velarde Pérez, the brave Mexican revolutionary, this bold, dark chocolate is infused with raspberry and chipotle. Accompanied by Alegria de Amaranto and Cocada (Mexican Confections). Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.

Made with Valrhona Chocolate’s plant-based Yuzu Inspiration, Ranger Teacrafter’s respectfully gathered Douglas Fir tips and a dash of matcha, this fragrant hot chocolate brings forth a umami mouthfeel and lively citrus notes of yuzu and evergreen fir sap.   
Served with a re-imagined granola bar that brings to mind Hansel and Gretel’s venture into the woods while leaving a trail of “bread crumbs”.

Celebrate the Lunar New Year – year of the tiger with our turmeric butterscotch hot chocolate.  Kick off the new year with a keen eye and a sharp mind!  House-made vegan turmeric butterscotch sauce crafted using Blume Turmeric Blend, combined with vegan dark chocolate sauce and steamed milk (opt for oat milk for a 100% vegan beverage).  The drink is topped off with extra drizzle of gold (turmeric butterscotch) and black (dark chocolate) sauces to bring to mind tiger stripes.    

On the side is a vegan stuffed cookie made with Bonus Bakery cookie dough and filled with our turmeric butterscotch sauce, then topped with dark chocolate chunk.  Garnished with edible gold luster dust and Maldon salt.

A 28% white chocolate milk infused with English Breakfast tea and house-made chestnut puree. All topped with Fufú’s signature chestnut whipped cream.
Paired with a chestnut-shaped, English breakfast tea-infused Madeleine that has been dipped in white chocolate and roasted almond bits then sprinkled with icing sugar.

Combining the rich, natural flavours of mint with orange paste (pureed orange peel) with rich, milk chocolate, this drink delivers classic comfort and warmth on a cold day.

This  South American-inspired hot chocolate delivers a mouthful of lusciously sweet caramel and cocoa flavours in its base of milk chocolate. It’s topped with a pinch of ground cinnamon and nutmeg, plus a dash of ancho chili powder.  
For the side treat Gem is  partnering with their neighbour ,”Sweet e’s Darling Desserts”, to serve one of their mouth-watering, vanilla and coconut shortbread cookies.

Gem Chocolate’s final drink for this season combines lime with chili for a tangy hot drink with a spicy kick … perfect on a cold day! 

For the side treat they will serve a lime sugar cookie created by Sweet e’s Darling Desserts.

With ‘Soyly Guìhuā’ the Honolulu Coffee team crafts their own Guìhuā sauce from the beautiful Osmanthus frangrans flower, and expertly mixes it up with 70% dark chocolate and soy milk. The beverage is paired with their house-made Oat Walnut Guìhuā cookie. Available January 15 – February 14, 2022.

Uno is taking their Midnight Chocolate Sorbetto to a new level! Creamy, dreamy, and No Dairy! This sorbetto marries the products from the best artisanal chocolatiers: Chocolat Michel Cluizel 85%; Guittard’s black cocoa; 99% cocoa from Valrhona; and non-alkalined cocoa from Venezuela. They will be making their Midnight with Earl Grey tea- and lavender buds-infused water. Next a scoop of this special sorbetto will be drowned in vanilla rice milk. Finally, all of this chocolatey goodness will be topped with caramelized, shaved almonds.

Enjoy it with a mini Coconut Cannoli filled with Almond Lemon Siciliano Sorbetto.
