In April, YiFang Taiwan Fruit Tea Canada announced two limited available milk drinks featuring taro: Mashed Taro Milk and Mashed Taro Green Tea Latte.
Both the Mashed Taro Milk and Mashed Taro Green Tea Latte features taro imported from Dajia District in Taichung, Taiwan which is known for their taro, as well as local organic milk. The Mashed Taro Green Tea Latte incorporates Paochong Green Tea. Both drinks can not be customized for sweetness and ice levels and are priced at $7.95. You can, however, have additional toppings like tapioca pearls.
The taro milk drinks were very popular and were sold out soon after release. In June, the brand announced that the drinks were available again.
I bought a Mashed Taro Milk to try from the Robson Street location in Vancouver. Although the drink cannot be customized, it was not very sweet. The taro chunks were appropriately sized and flowed nicely through the straw; there is a good amount of taro so the drink is rather filling.
As the drink uses real taro and no artificial colours or preservatives, it will not have a vibrant purple appearance.
Overall, I would have the drink again but only if I were hungrier rather than to solely quench my thirst due to the amount of taro included. Rating: 3.5/5
