Starbucks Salted Cream Cold Foam Cold Brew

Starbucks latest cold and caffeinated concoction has definitely got me swooning.  I love the new Starbucks Salted Cream Cold Foam Cold Brew.  According to the company, it’s a “savoury-meets-sweet” type of beverage featuring their signature Cold Brew sweetened with a touch of caramel and topped with a salted, rich cold foam.  It’s no regular iced coffee; it’s so much more than that.

WHAT IS STARBUCKS COLD FOAM?

If you’re unfamiliar with Starbucks cold foam, here’s a quick rundown.  Cold foam is made using a special blender that whips nonfat milk very quickly to create a creamy texture and flavour without the cream (still contains dairy.)  This is a contrast to hot, steamed milk foam that you would get in lattes and cappuccinos.  The cold foam sits at the top of your drink (like a topping) and with Starbuck’s strawless lids you can enjoy a bit of the foam with every sip.

As I had noted in a previous post, I really enjoyed the Starbucks cold foam; it was frothy, cold, smooth, and somewhat dry.  The foam wasn’t rich nor sweet.  It added a fun creamy texture to the beverages without actual cream.  Cold foam can be added to any iced beverages.  For Vancouver Starbucks locations, I found cold foam to be an extra $0.60 CDN.  Pro Tip:  If you are doing mobile order, you can select for cold foam under “Toppings.”

Taste Test:  The base of the drink is Cold Brew which is sweetened with a bit of caramel.  The cold foam is salted but remember that salt in general enhances flavours?  With each sip, I thought that the coffee and caramel flavours were nicely amplified but in a balanced way.  Every mouthful was delicious as it was complex with the sweet and salty flavours.  I definitely liked this Starbucks Salted Cream Fold Foam Cold Brew more than the new Tim Hortons Salted Caramel Iced Capp.

Appearance:  I liked the layered look of the drink with the coffee on the bottom and cold foam on top.

Nutrition: A Tall has 160 calories; Grande has 230 calories; Venti Iced has 280 calories; and Trenta Iced has 340 calories.  The drinks are customizable especially if you want to reduce the number of pumps for syrup.

Bottom Line

The Starbucks Salted Cream Cold Foam Cold Brew is definitely my favourite way to get my coffee fix this summer.  I definitely recommend giving it a try.  Rating: 5/5
