Newly opened On Yogurt is taking yogurt to a whole a new level. Located at 95 Smithe Street, right by BC Place, On Yogurt specializes in ice fried yogurt and ice fried yogurt gelato. I was invited to On Yogurt recently where I learned about how to ice fry yogurt and more about their story.
Organic, Handmade Yogurt
On Yogurt is owned and operated by a young couple. They make the yogurt on-site and they utilize local and organic ingredients including BC dairy milk. Customers can select from one of their featured yogurt combos ($5-6) or customers can create their own. There are three yogurt bases available: handmade yogurt ($3.99), ice fried yogurt ($4.69) and ice fried yogurt gelato ($4.69). The ice fried yogurt gelato is a mix of yogurt and gelato; it comes in original, chocolate, matcha, peanut butter and Earl Grey flavours. They have over 40 toppings and each is $0.60. There are common toppings like nuts and fresh fruits, but the more unique ones are sunflower seeds, cranberry trail mix and chocolate bar clusters. Yogurt shakes, pastries and drinks (milk tea, tea, espresso-based) round out the menu.
How to Ice Fry Yogurt
What meant as “ice frying” the yogurt is actually flash freezing it. Customers can watch the entire process happen right in front of their eyes. First, the yogurt is spread out thinly and evenly on a pan that is at a freezing temperature. The yogurt is then solidified, scraped up and finished off with choice of toppings for your enjoyment.

Cozy and Comfortable
The interior of On Yogurt is totally adorable, cozy and comfortable. There is one large communal table and a corner with coffee table, arm chairs and drum cushion stools. It seems like an ideal place to gather with friends and indulge in some dessert.

What I Tried
The first treat we tried was an Earl Grey ice fried yogurt gelato with peanuts and chocolate syrup. I was so impressed by the Earl Grey flavour – it was delicious! The texture was very dense but still creamy.
Next up was an ice fried yogurt with strawberry, honey corn, peanuts and a chocolate wafer. The honey corn surprisingly went well with the yogurt mix and offered a fun texture. The chocolate wafer was an aesthetically pleasing addition.

On Yogurt’s ice fried yogurt is a fun and delicious addition to Vancouver’s dessert scene. The owners are friendly and inviting. Another plus in my books is that the store is super cute and photogenic. In fact, you are encouraged to take photos and share them on social media. I love a dessert place that is photo-friendly!
