McDonald’s Canada is giving Big Mac fans cause for celebration with the addition of the McDonald’s Grand Big Mac to nationwide menus at participating restaurants for a limited time.

What is a McDonald’s Grand Big Mac?

The Grand Big Mac is made with the following ingredients:

• two larger 100% Canadian beef patties (“larger” based on weight before cooking, compared to the Big Mac)
• special sauce
• crisp lettuce
• two slices of processed cheddar cheese
• pickles
• onions
• toasted sesame seed bun

McDonald’s Canada has the Grand Big Mac on the menu  from June 22 – July 26.

Detailed Grand Big Mac Ingredients

7:1 beef patty (2 patties)

Contains sesame seeds, shellfish, peanuts, soy, tree nuts, wheat, milk, egg, mustard, fish.

Big Mac bun

Contains enriched wheat flour, water, sugar, yeast, vegetable oil (canola and/or soy), vegetable protein (pea, potato, faba bean), sunflower oil, corn dextrose, corn starch, corn maltodextrin, sesame seeds, salt, may contain any or all in varying proportions: wheat gluten, potato starch, dough conditioners (DATEM, ascorbic acid, enzymes), natural flavour, corn maltodextrin, corn starch, vinegar. Toasted in the same toaster that also prepares other buns containing butter and egg. May contain milk and eggs.

What is the difference between a Big Mac and a Grand Big Mac?

The regular Big Mac has two 100% Canadian beef patties, special sauce, crisp lettuce, processed cheddar cheese, pickles and onions on a toasted sesame seed bun.

The Grand Big Mac has the same type of ingredients but in a bigger size. It has two “larger” 100% Canadian beef patties. That is, “larger” based on weight before cooking, compared to the Big Mac. It also has 2 processed cheddar cheese slices and 3 times the Big Mac sauce.

The Double Big Mac is made with four of the Big Mac patties.

McDonald’s Grand Big Mac Review

To start, the Grand Big Mac has its own dedicated branded box.

Is the Grand Big Mac good? It’s basically a physically bigger sized Big Mac. It was pretty tasty just like the regular Big Mac.

One thing I noticed that it was noticeably more saucy than a regular Big Mac. If you read the customization section above, you might have noticed that the Grand Big Mac has 3 times the sauce as the regular Big Mac.

Big Mac vs Double Big Mac vs Grand Big Mac Review

I bought all three Big Mac types from my local McDonald’s to do a size comparison. Please note that the sizes of the burgers might slightly vary depending on which McDonald’s you go to.

Weight comparison

Using a kitchen scale, I determined the weights of the burgers:

• Big Mac: 192 g
• Double Big Mac: 260 g
• Grand Big Mac: 293 g

The Grand Big Mac weighs 53% more than the regular Big Mac and 13% more than the Double Big Mac.

Bun comparison

The Grand Big Mac uses a 5″ bun versus the regular Big Mac and Double Big Mac which use a 4″ bun.

Patty comparison

Here is the amount of meat you get in each type of Big Mac:

• Big Mac: 29 g x 2 = 58 g (2 patties)
• Double Big Mac: 50 g x 2 = 100 g (4 patties)
• Grand Big Mac: 45 g x 2 = 90 g (2 bigger Big Mac patties)

With the Grand Big Mac, you get 50% more meat than a regular Big Mac, and 11% less meat than the Double Big Mac.
