Hungry Guys Kitchen

Disclaimer:  All food in this review was complimentary.  Opinions are my own.

The Granville Street Entertainment District is home to many late night comfort food establishments.  But one new eatery,  Hungry Guys Kitchen, is setting itself apart from serving some fast and healthy eats.  At the Hungry Guys Kitchen, you can enjoy one of the signature burritos, salads or bowls or build your own.  Quality is key as their ingredients are local, sustainable, free-run, responsibly raised, free of GMO, and free of artificial additives.

I was invited to try out the healthy fare at Hungry Guys Kitchen and to learn more about their story.

Their signature salads are $10 – $11 and include the Avocado Taco Salad, Yo’ So Pretty, Pepita De Mi Vida and Awesome Remix Vol. 1.  One customer ahead of me had the very popular Yo’ So Pretty with organic arugula, organic mixed greens, onion, chick peas, cucumbers, red beets, roasted broccoli, fresh lemon, parsley, goat cheese and miso dressing ($9.50).

Build your own burrito or bowl starting at $8.89 with choice of rice or beans, protein (grilled chicken, grilled steak, organic tofu, and pork carnitas) and toppings (salsa, sriracha, sour cream, corn, romaine, cheddar, guacamole).  Build your own salad starting at $6.50 with choice of 2 bases and 4 veggies.  Hungry Guys offers organic choices include organic mixed greens, organic quinoa, and organic tofu.

For drinks, have one of their homemade lemonades.  For an unsweetened drink, try the organic hibiscus tea.

Chef Velaj prepared a special build-your-own salad for us to try.  It had lots of flavour from the maple balsamic and loaded with local red beets, carrots, tomato, edamame, chopped romaine, and brown rice.

We also tried the Avocado Taco Salad with grilled chicken, organic mixed greens, chopped romaine, tomato, avocado, tortilla chips, onion, fresh lime, corn, cilantro, shredded cheddar and HGK dressing ($10.75).  It was packed with ingredients and very filling.

We also tried the fresh lemonade, blueberry lemonade and organic hibiscus tea.  All three drinks were refreshing and went well with the food.  The lemonades tasted fresh and had just the right amount of sweetness.

Overall Impression of Hungry Guys Kitchen

I generally don’t get full from a salad but the portions at Hungry Guys were so good that I was undeniably stuffed. I would recommend visiting Hungry Guys for some healthy fare that leaves you satisfied and nourished.  Rating: 4/5
