Ho Yuen Cafe Menu

Their soft opening menu is small and focused and includes BBQ Pork Noodles Soup; Homemade style BBQ Pork on Rice; Pork Chop Bun and more. I found it funny that the prices are not listed on the menu. I guess they are not set on it yet.

They also have a selection of housemade pastries like Pineapple Bun; Egg Tart in a Cookie-like Shell; Banana Cake and so forth.

What We Tried

We went in for lunch and here is my not sponsored, honest review.

Service was slow for the volume of customers and the staff handed some free Egg Tarts to a few tables like mine who were waiting.

Their Egg Tart had a crisp, cookie crust and a nice, creamy egg custard.

We then had their Pineapple Buns: one with butter ($4) and one Original ($2) I liked the soft, fluffy bread with their crunchy topping.

As for entrees, they literally sold out of all the mains except one by the time we put in our order. So we tried only the Luncheon Meat in Tomato Soup with rice noodle ($12.50). It was pretty nice tomato flavour and the portion was reasonable.

I got one of their Chocolate Pineapple Buns with a Chocolate Filling ($3.75) to go which was good as well.

The warmer has pastries that are available for dine-in or to-go.

Some small issues we had was the cutlery we received was a bit oily and not super clean so we gave them a wash with hot water old-school style. One of the chopsticks was badly bent.

They accept cash or debit. There is a 2% surcharge for credit card. Tip prompt starts at 10%.

I end up paying just about $20 plus tip and $3.75 for the to-go Pineapple bun.

Interior & Vibe

While I was there, they played various nostalgic Cantopop songs from artists like Jacky Cheung友; Hacken Lee 李克勤; Leon Lai 黎明. It’s like they knew my Cantopop karaoke list from the 90s.

The interior has a mix of small and larger dining tables.
