Whistler Eats: Zog’s Dogs

When it comes to fast, satisfying and cheap eats in tourist place like Whistler, Zog’s Dogs frequently makes the list.  It’s an outdoor food stand located at the base of Whistler Mountain serving comforting eats like hot dogs, poutine and Beavertails.  Zog’s is a popular spot for avant- or après-ski munchies.   And you pass by Zog’s, you’ll love the smell of caramelized onions in the air.  Before heading up the mountains for some sightseeing last month, my husband and I grabbed a few quite bites from Zog’s.

And as I was waiting for my order, the young and energetic staff didn’t mind posing for a photo.

What We Tried

We ordered the classic Zog’s Dog ($6.25) and  Bratwurst Pork Sausage ($6.75).  Both hot dogs were piping hot and wrapped in aluminum foil.  The Zog’s Dog is fully loaded with spaghetti meat sauce and mozzarella.  It had just the right proportions of everything so that each bite was nicely moist from the sauce but also meaty from the hot dog and cheesy.  Furthermore, it wasn’t a messy eat because everything held quite well together.

The Bratwurst Dog was simple, delicious and more natural-tasting than a hot dog.

A Few Notes

Customers may help themselves to the sauteed onions which are found in a large wok.  This is great if you want to fill yourself up.  Zog’s is mostly a grab-an-go place as there is no covered dining area.  They have few outdoor tables if you do wish to sit down and eat there.

Overall Impression of Zog’s Dogs

I thought that Zog’s has some nice comforting eats which are easy on the wallet (for tourist place standards).   A reasonable food choice before heading up or if you are just getting off the mountain.  I also saw on Facebook that they now offer soft serve!  Rating: 3.5/5
