Whisk Matcha Cafe: New Vancouver Plant-Based Matcha

Whisk Matcha Cafe is an upcoming plant-based matcha cafe opening in Mount Pleasant this summer.

Whisk Matcha started out as a North American online retailer of organic competition grade matcha. In fact, they are the only distributor and purveyor of competition-grade matcha.

?PREMIUM MATCHA PATISSERIE 500g? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hoshinomura (星野村), translated as Starry Village, is one of the most beautiful villages in Japan, located in Yame, Fukuoka Prefecture, and it grows rare, one of a kind, most refined matcha in Japan. Nestled in rugged mountains, Hoshinomura has the ideal weather and soil for tencha and gyokuro production. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We waited 4 years to find and introduce this very special matcha – Premium Matcha Patisserie. We did't want to use any low quality (2nd or later harvest) matcha for some so-called culinary matcha which are often associated with brown/yellow-ish color, strong bitter taste and fishy smells. We want something just as green, beautiful, smooth, fragrant while economical enough to be used in baking. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ During our national-wide tea hunting in Japan back in 2018, we fell in love with this magical place – Yame. We're so proud to establish a close relationship with the most renown matcha processor in Yame who represents the best local growers and adopts the most traditional stone grinding and "Hiire (火入れ)" technique, bringing you the highest patisserie grade on the market. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Flavour Profile: Velvety, Dark Chocolate, Fragrant Finish, Toasted Hazelnut ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This grade is best use for baking and cold matcha lattes. The flavour is very mellow which may not be the best for making hot matcha latte, however the color and flavour will stay longer during baking process. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For more information, pls visit our website – link in bio.

Founded by Kimmy, a veteran matcha-holic and upcoming certified tea sommelier, Whisk Matcha held a few pop-ups locally last year where they crafted matcha drinks from hot lattes to matcha lemonades and served housemade matcha donuts and parfaits.

The upcoming Whisk Matcha cafe is aiming to offer customers a matcha/tea/coffee experience paired with plant-based desserts created by Monica Tang of Level V Bakery.

The matcha offered at the cafe will be the highest grade, award-winning, organic variety from tea farms in Kyoto, Japan.

There are plans for a dedicated counter space where matcha will be whisked ceremonial style.

Other plans for the menu include light lunch items such as deli sandwiches and hearty soups. All items will be plant-based and using organic ingredients wherever possible.

You can learn more about the story behind Whisk Matcha Cafe from their Kickstarter campaign.

Stay tuned for more details on the opening of Whisk Matcha Cafe.
