Western Lake Restaurant Crab Special

I recently dined in at Western Lake Restaurant for the first time since the pandemic. Having not made a reservation ahead of time, we arrived right when they opened for dinner service at 5 pm. The restaurant was able to accommodate and took down my name and phone number for contact tracing.

We went with the crab special which was $39.80 for a crab that weighs roughly about 2.5 pounds.

You can select different preparations of the crab but we went with a fried crab with salted egg yolk accompanied with rice cakes. The salted egg yolk preparation is an extra $5.

The crab was delicious, of course, with all the salted egg yolk glory. The salted egg yolk coated rice cakes were certainly tasty bites. However, if you are concerned with your cholesterol, it would be advised to limit your salted egg yolk intake in general. This dish would be hard to resist – just saying!

I have some more videos in my Instagram post if you swipe to the left:

We also ordered a Yang Chow Fried Rice and some Pork Soup Dumplings to round out the meal.

As dine-in capacity is limited, the restaurant did not seem a lot more quiet than usual. However, I did notice that they were very busy with takeout orders.

Western Lake Restaurant is also fundraising for BC Children’s Hospital’s COVID-19 Response Fund.

If you donate to the COVID-19 Response Fund and spend $50 or more at Western Lake, you will receive their award-winning Roasted Salt Free Range Chicken (half portion) for free.

A suggested minimum donation of $20 is recommended. Please include your donation receipt number in the “Remarks” field when you complete your online order. For more information, visit www.bcchf.ca/westernlake

Overall, the food was good as per usual and the dine-in experience was good and comfortable all things considered. Take-out is certainly a popular option if you still want to get your Western Lake fix.
