Wendy’s Opens Canada’s First Future Fresh Restaurant

Wendy’s has opened Canada’s first Future Fresh restaurant in North York, Ontario giving diners a first look at the new setting that could shape future Wendy’s locations across the country.

Wendy’s Opens Canada’s First Future Fresh Restaurant

Located at 865 York Mills Road, Unit 11, the restaurant brings a more contemporary look to the familiar fast-food brand. Guests can still order the Wendy’s burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries and Frosty desserts they know, but the experience now takes place inside a redesigned space created for dine-in, takeout, mobile orders and delivery pickups.

The restaurant is owned and operated by franchisees Keyur Patel and Ankur Arora. It offers 40 interior seats, making it suitable for customers stopping in for a quick lunch, a casual meal or an order to take home.

The most noticeable change is the exterior. Blue is used prominently across the building, moving away from the red that commonly appears throughout the quick-service restaurant industry. The colour also connects to Wendy’s history, as the company’s first restaurant featured a blue-and-white exterior.

Inside, digital menu boards, modern signage and a streamlined layout are intended to make ordering and collecting food easier. Mobile ordering and mobile payment are available, giving diners the option to place an order before arriving.

The Future Fresh design also considers the growing number of customers using restaurant apps and delivery services. Designated waiting areas may be included for mobile-order customers and delivery drivers, helping reduce crowding around the main counter during lunch and dinner periods.

Wendy’s developed the Future Fresh concept using feedback from customers and franchisees in different markets. The format keeps the company’s recognizable branding but allows artwork, signage and other visual details to be adapted to the surrounding community.

The North York opening is the first time Canadian diners can experience the design. Future Fresh restaurants have already opened in countries including England, Scotland, Chile, Armenia, the Dominican Republic and the Philippines.

Canada is Wendy’s largest international market, with more than 470 restaurants operating across the country. The company marked 50 years in Canada in 2025 and opened a record number of Canadian restaurants during the same year.

For regular Wendy’s customers, the new restaurant does not signal a departure from the menu. The larger change is how guests move through the space, from checking the digital boards and placing an order to finding a seat or collecting food to go.

The North York restaurant is currently open daily from 10:30 a.m. until midnight. Holiday hours may vary, and diners can check the official location page for current hours, directions and ordering details.
