New on the menu at Starbucks this month is the Starbucks Chicken Chorizo Tortilla Sous Vide Egg Bites. According to the company, this variety features chicken chorizo, chipotle salsa and cotija cheese, with corn tortilla pieces resting atop. This is Starbuck’s third addition to the Sous Vide Egg Bites line up which include two other savoury flavours: Bacon & Gruyere and Egg White and Roasted Red Pepper (see previous post here).

Healthy Breakfast On The Go
If you’re unfamiliar with the Starbucks Sous Vide Egg Bites, they are hot, breakfast-on-the-go items designed as a healthy option. The Egg Bites are cage-free eggs prepared using the French “sous vide” technique.
With the sous vide technique, food is vacuum sealed, immersed in water and cooked at a very precise and consistent temperature. Sous-vide is a preferred method because it doesn’t require extra fats and oils. According to Starbucks, the result of cooking the eggs sous-vide is a creamy, velvety texture with flavour that is rich in flavour. It’s as if you’re eating something indulgent but you’re not.
Nutrition
Two Chicken Chorizo Tortilla bites have 230 calories, 13 grams of fat, and 15 grams of protein. This variety has less calories than the Bacon and Gruyere (310 calories) but more than the Egg White and Roasted Red Pepper (170 calories).

The Starbucks Chicken Chorizo Tortilla Sous Vide Egg Bites come as a pair and are priced at $4.75 CAD.
Taste Test
The Chicken Chorizo Tortilla Egg Bites have been described to be inspired by Mexican staple, Huevos con chorizo (spicy Mexican sausage with eggs). In terms of taste, the Mexican-flavours are there but mild. I liked the subtle smoky flavour from the chorizo. The Chicken Chorizo Tortilla Egg Bites have just the same spongy texture as the other savoury Egg Bites. The corn tortilla bits were a nice textural contrast being crispy.
Bottom Line
If you love Starbucks sous vide egg bites already, I think you’ll enjoy the Chicken Chorizo Tortilla variety. Out of all the Starbucks Sous Vide Egg Bites, this new option has become my new favourite. Rating: 4/5
