South Granville Tasting Plates 2018 Recap

It was another fun night of attending Vancouver Foodster’s Tasting Plates South Granville edition.  Attendees visited 6 participating establishments located between 6th – 16th Avenues on Granville Street which included Italian dishes as well as Asian/Fusion eats and more.  Here’s a recap of the evening.

Jak’s

JAK’s Beer Wine Spirits is a fourth generation family business working to be British Columbia’s liquor store of choice.  They offer a wide selection of coveted and hard to find craft beer and local wine and spirits.

The evening started off with a wine tasting at Jak’s after everyone registered.  The featured wines were:

  • Gigglewater Prosecco NV
  • The Hatch B. Yanco 2017 – (Okanagan)
  • Olivier Leflaive Bourgogne 2015 – (Burgundy)
  • Mirabeau Classic Rosé 2017 – (Provence)
  • Page “Preface” Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 – (Washington)

Fiore

Fiore is an Italian inspired restaurant with an intimate neighbourhood feel focusing on simple Italian featuring fresh hand-crafted pasta and naturally-leavened sourdough thin crust pizza using predominantly regional and seasonal ingredients.  Attendees had beet and ricotta-filled ravioli with herb beurre blanc and roasted beets.

Meinhardt Fine Foods

Meinhardt offers imported food products from around the world, including a large selection of prepared foods in the deli case.  For the event, they presented a tasting plate with white wine steel head trout, beet risotto, spicy tiger prawns, mini panko crusted cod cake, wild baby arugula with white balsamic dressing spicy aioli and a meringue tart.

The Rise Eatery

Founded by husband-and-wife team Dan Leung and Wanda Lai, The Rise Eatery serves a contemporary mix of Asian fusion cuisine.

The Rise presented three dishes:

  • Lo Hay Salad – smoked salmon, julienne of cucumber, daikon, carrot, pickled ginger, onion, tomato and taro potato, pea shoots, crisp white vermicelli, toasted sesame, peanuts, apricot & beet vinaigrette
  • Chicken Seoul Good – Korean style fried chicken, wild mushroom cream, truffle oil, grated parmesan
  • Dynamic Duo – rice battered brussel sprout and cauliflower bites, gochujang buffalo sauce, blue cheese crumble

Phoscao Café

Phoscao Cafe is a small cafe serving casual breakfast/lunch fair, including a variety of cakes and other baked goods.  For the event, Phoscao Cafe presented mango bingsoo and matcha green tea bingsoo.

Le Creuset

Unique to the Vancouver location, and a first for Le Creuset internationally, the Le Creuset Café, is a full service coffee counter serving hot beverages and freshly-baked pastries furnished by Thierry.  While sipping a cappuccino with coffee beans provided by the 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters, customers will be welcome to browse the complete selection of Le Creuset’s famed cookware in the brand’s largest boutique in the world, covering over 2000 square feet.  The large selection of Le Creuset product includes enamelled cast iron, stainless steel and nonstick cookware, as well as bakeware, tableware, tools, and accessories.
