The mooncake is stuffed traditionally with red bean paste, fruit, egg yolk, nuts or lotus seed paste. However, there have been more unique and creative fillings in modern times.

Daan Go Cake Lab Vancouver is offering two mooncake sets for Mid-Autumn 2026.

  • Snow Skin Mooncake Set: Includes four mochi-wrapped mooncakes in Houjicha Black Sesame, Jamocha Nut, Mango Cheesecake, and Salted Egg Yolk. Each mooncake is 130 g. Contains sesame.

Saint Germain Bakery is known for their straight-from-the-oven mooncakes that are made in-house and without preservatives. They are offering:

Pricesmart Foods has a selection of imported mooncakes. You can check online for what brands they offer. They have two locations: Station Square (Burnaby) and Ackroyd (Richmond).

Sungiven Foods offers a wide selection of mooncakes imported from Asia. Each store may have different inventory.

T&T Supermarkets takes the “cake” in terms of options of mooncakes. They import many mooncakes from Asia including brands like The Peninsula Hotels, Hang Heung, Wing Wah and so forth.

Events & Festivals

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden will celebrate their 40th annual Mid-Autumn Moon Festival on September 26 and 27. This year’s Moon Palace event features lanterns, traditional performances, hands-on activities and cultural stories for the whole family. Admission starts at $12, with family tickets available for $40. The first 100 ticket orders will receive a complimentary traditional bamboo hand fan.

Lansdowne Centre is celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival on September 26 and 27 with bunny-themed activities supporting Rabbitats Rescue Society. Spend $38 or more on September 26 to participate in the Bunny Meet & Treat or Bamboo Lantern Workshop. Bunny Yoga is available with a $25 donation and advance registration. The weekend will feature an artisan market and lantern riddle games too.

The Chinese Canadian Museum is celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival on September 26 and 27 with storytelling, crafts and food. Weekend activities include mooncake samples from Sungiven Foods, Chinese knot lantern tassel crafts and playdough mooncake making. Saturday features English and Cantonese storytimes, and Sunday brings snowy mooncake workshops with Chef Christopher Leow. Programs are complimentary with museum admission, except the mooncake workshops, which cost $40 to $50 per person plus GST.

UBC Farm will host a hands-on workshop, Make Your Own Mooncakes, on September 20. p.m. Learn how to make mooncakes from scratch with chef Abraham Wong, as featured on CBC Vancouver Radio and TV. The workshop covers three classic Hong Kong-style fillings: lotus paste, milky custard and black sesame, all with salted egg yolk. Participants can decorate their mooncakes using a selection of presses, then enjoy tea and homemade mooncakes together. Bring a takeout container or small tin to carry your creations home.
