Mekong, Whistler Creekside Village’s newest restaurant, is a must-try restaurant on your next trip to Whistler.
Mekong’s Menu
Mekong’s menu showcases the heartwarming flavours of Thailand while highlighting local ingredients and fresh, in-season produce and bounty of the Pacific Ocean and farmlands of the Lower Mainland and Pemberton.
The restaurant which opened last summer was inspired by Infinity Group CEO Pepe Barajas’ extensive travels to Thailand and informed by celebrated Chef Angus An Mekong.
Thai-born Chef Bonnie Khummuang is their vision and brings deep expertise and passion for the traditional methods and flavours of her home country to this new Whistler restaurant.
What to Try
We visited them for dinner and here are some of the best items to try.
Amuse bouche
This was a delicious addition from the chef featuring silky smooth rice rolls in a fragrant coconut soup.
Chicken Pomelo Salad
Oven roasted Loong Kong chicken. pomelo, mint, cilantro, crispy shallots, toasted coconut. I loved the combination of citrus fruit, mint and chicken flavour with some acidity!
Tom Ka Mussels
Served with Salt Spring Island mussels, mushrooms and hot and sour coconut soup. Perfectly cooked mussels in a sweet and spicy broth.
Handmade Roti with a shot of turmeric curry
Roti made in house that is light and crispy. A delicious side!
Pla Sam Rot Seabass
One of Mekong’s signature dishes. Lightly fried seabass finished in a wok with bell pepper, and baby corn, in a three flavour sauce: sweet, sour, and savoury. Topped with crispy shallots and garlic. I loved crispy fish skin and the tender fish skin.
Gena Gola Steak
8oz steak, egg yolk purée, French green beans, pickled ginger. Served with southern-style dry Geng Gola curry.
Duck Confit
Pickled ginger, pickled carrot, housemade mushroom XO sauce. You create a lettuce wrap with the duck confit.
Young Coconut Pannacotta
with yuzu gel, jackfruit, coconut tuile. A refreshing dessert and palate cleanser!
Thai Tea Crème Brulee
Thai tea short bread, strawberries
Beverage
Not to be missed are Mekong’s beautiful and unique cocktails to complement your meal.
Interior
The space features greenery throughout the space and inventive balloon-like, white-and-gold chandeliers.
I definitely recommend Mekong as a place for some comforting aromatic dishes that are well-presented and have bold flavours.
