What does Mazda and the wine industry have in common? Mazda MX-30, the brand’s first electric vehicle represents Mazda’s next step towards carbon neutrality.

The interior of the MX-30 features a cork console, made from sustainably sourced cork and leftovers from wine bottle cork stoppers—an industry first.

Mazda has a long history with the cork industry, as it was originally founded as Toyo Cork Kogyo in 1920, a prominent cork manufacturer.

The use of this renewable resource in the MX-30 is a clever nod to the heritage of the company, as well as a deliberate representation of Mazda’s commitment to sustainability.

The innovative use of cork as a material is exciting for Mazda and wine consumers alike, as it provides a distinctly unique experience in both the interior of the MX-30 and a connection to the world’s best wines.

Furthermore, Mazda used recycled bottles made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) to create breathing fabric that is used on the door trims.

Much like Mazda’s well-to-wheel approach – tracking emissions from everything to fuel extraction (well) through to driving (wheel) – the wine industry is looking for ways to minimize their footprint.

We enjoyed test driving the Mazda MX-30and enjoyed other features like:

The open, attractive cabin that creates a sense of calm.

The floating console gives the MX-30 a light and airy feel, while also providing additional space to neatly tuck away two USB inputs and available 150W AC power outlet.

The new seven-inch touchscreen that provides access to the climate control. The touchscreen is flanked on either side by tactile push buttons that also operate the climate control.

The nice interior that is two-tone with standard black/gray cloth upholstery. Pure White leatherette seats contrasted by gray fabric or Vintage Brown with black fabric are available.

The freestyle doors which when fully opened helps achieve a feeling of openness and freedom.

The Mazda MX-30 has a lightweight lithium battery (35.5 kWh), designed to ensure greater responsiveness while offering a range of approximately 161 kilometres on a full charge and multiple charging options.

Charge up from 20% to 80% in approximately 36 minutes with a Level 3: DC 50 kW fast charger, 2 hours and 50 minutes with a Level 2: AC 240V/30 amps charger, or 13 hours and 40 minutes with a Level 1: AC 120V/15 amps charger.

Thank you Mazda Canada for allowing us to test drive the Mazda MX-30.
