Top Gelateria in Vancouver: La Casa Gelato

One of the oldest gelaterias in Vancouver (if not the oldest) is La Casa Gelato having been in business since 1982.  This family-owned and operated gelateria is famous for their immense selection of flavours.  To date, they have created 588 flavours with 238 on site at all times at their Venebales location.  La Casa Gelato is a place where you get a gelato fix at most times of the day as they are open 365 days a year, 7 days a week from 11 am – 11 pm.  It had been quite a few years since my last visit to La Casa Gelato.  So on a rainy weekday evening, my family and I decided to visit La Casa Gelato for some post-dinner dessert.

La Casa Gelato Menu

Aside from gelato, La Casa Gelato also produces sorbetto (dairy-free), sorbettos, Italian treats (like cannolis, candy bars, clusters), and gelato cakes.

How it works for the gelato and sorbetto flavours is that you first pre-pay at the counter.  They accept cash or debit only.  You can order a single ($5.00), double ($7.00) or triple ($9.00) scoop in either a cone or cup.  All prices include tax.  You receive a poker chip which you exchange afterwards when you select have selected the flavour(s) that you want.

All waffle cones are made-in-house.  The fresh smell of the waffle cones make the store smell amazing.

Fun, Spacious Interior

The interior of La Casa Gelato is very spacious, clean and overall fun.  There are no dining tables inside the store.  Browsing through the display cases is a fun experience.

Energetic, Friendly Staff

When we visited La Casa Gelato, it wasn’t very busy at the time.  The staff were very friendly and were keen to provide samples.  I thought their great customer service added to the experience.

What We Tried

We went with a single scoop of S’mores ($5.00) and a double scoop of pistachio and strawberry balsamic vinegar ($7.00).  The S’mores was a nice, kid-friendly conversative flavour.  The pistachio was subtle but still reasonably nutty.  The strawberry balsamic vinegar was stronger than a regular strawberry flavour but still very delicious.
