Hot Chocolate Festival Vancouver 2021: Dates, Flavours, Map

One of the most anticipated Vancouver festivals, the Hot Chocolate Festival, is making its return in 2021.

Hot Chocolate Festival Vancouver Dates

The 11th annual Hot Chocolate Festival Vancouver 2021 is happening January 16 – February 14, 2021.

However, in order to be mindful of your safety and respectful to BC Health Authority rules and regulations, the Festival has made some modifications to this annual initiative.

All featured hot chocolates will be available for takeout and most participating vendors will be selling as takeout only.

Some vendors will be able to offer you cafe service but while you are on their premises, both inside and outside their buildings, you must respect all safety protocols they now operate by.

You must wear a mask while in public spaces and whenever requested to by the vendors.

Some participating vendors will be offering DIY hot chocolate kits that you may purchase to take home or mail to the friends who will not be with you this year.

Some vendors will be providing price discounts to front line medical and hospital cleaning staff. Just ask about this.  

This should not be seen as an opportunity to socialize, and visits should be as brief as possible, but whether partaking solo or in the company of your immediate family or household bubble, it is still a great way to support the business members of your own community or neighbourhood.

To discourage groups, walking tours, etc., they will not be providing printed maps this year, however you will still be able to access the virtual map.

This year there are 39 participating vendors with 87 flavours. Vendors range from chocolatiers, pastry shops, bakeries, cafes, gelato and ice cream makers all coming together to make the humble hot chocolate hotter than it has ever been before.

#14 – PERSIAN ROSE. Available January 16 – February 14, 2021. Layered dark hot chocolate, with condensed milk, cardamom, and rosewater. Topped with whipped cream and rose petals. Served with Amaretto bites.

#15 – CAMPING FLASHBACK. Available Jan 16 – February 14, 2021. Dark hot chocolate infused with rosemary syrup and finished with roasted marshmallow and a cinnamon stick. Paired with a vanilla shortbread.

Photo Contest

The online photo contest will still take place as usual but they have cancelled all other classes, pre- or post- happenings, tastings, art showings or other promotional events associated this year.

Prizes consist of gift certificates valued at $975 from participating chocolate makers and cafes. Winners will be drawn and announced on Valentine’s Day.

  • First prize: $500 gift certificates from participating vendors.
  • Second prize: $250 gift certificates from participating vendors.
  • Third prize: $150 gift certificates from participating vendors.
  • Fourth prize: $75 gift certificates from participating vendors.    

How to enter:

When you are at one of the participating cafes or shops enjoying a hot chocolate, whip out your phone and take a picture of your drink. 

Simply tag #HCVphotocontest in your caption or tag @hotchocolatefest within the photo of the hot chocolate – and you’ll be entered in.

Entries via Instagram stories do not count, only static Instagram posts on public accounts.

The draw for prizes will be drawn and announced on February 14, 2021.

Last year, partial funds from the proceeds of the Hot Chocolate Festival were shared with three charitable organizations – all of which seek to improve the lives of women and families in Vancouver.

This year, the Hot Chocolate Festival is to help support Vancouver’s local, independent businesses during this difficult time. Donations to partner charities by participating vendors will be on a voluntary basis.
