Missing Richmond Night Market eats? One of the food stalls from the Night Market, G8 Taiwanese Kitchen, is hosting a popup every Tuesday at Icy Bar in Richmond.
On the menu, you’ll find Basil Popcorn Chicken, Stinky Tofu, Crispy Fish Cake, Deep Fried Pork Blood Cake, Crispy Kimchi Tofu and more. Wash it down with homemade drinks include Caramel Pineapple Tea and Wintermelon Sweet Tea.
I found out about their pop-up on Instagram and visited them last Tuesday to get some of their Taiwanese deep fried eats:
- G8 Party Bag ($15.50) (a sampling of what they offer including chicken, tofu, fish cake, pork blood cake, enoki, mushroom, squid, basil – but no stinky tofu here)
- Stinky Tofu ($8.50)
- Caramel Pineapple Tea ($3.95)
Everything was really good and crispy. The pineapple tea was very refreshing and had a nice caramelly pineapple flavour but not too sweet.
Walk up, preorders and delivery via Fantuan (under GB Taiwan Kitchen) are available.
I did think that the stinky tofu could be stinkier and have mentioned that to the owner as she asked for some feedback. She is super nice! She told me that the stinky tofu is imported and they do not add sauce to it.
The pork blood cake is actually just rice cake and not pork blood!
Overall, it was fun to enjoy some delicious, deep-fried Night Market eats outside the Night Market. I sure don’t miss the lines…and the crowds!
