Located on Union Street in Historic Chinatown, Crackle Crème is a unique dessert spot known for their artisan crème brûlée, authentic Belgian Liège waffles and adorable macarons. I previously posted a review about their delicious crème brûlée and waffles. This time around, I decided to revisit Crackle Crème after hearing about their Pikachu macarons! For all you Pokemon Go players like myself, Crackle Crème has a very cute Pikachu macaron available at $2.90 a piece. These Instagram-worthy macarons are produced in collaboration with Gourmand Macaron.
I visited Crackle Crème right when they opened yesterday at 3 pm and it got quite busy with customers soon after. This translated into a small lineup just after opening. Pikachu macarons were certainly a popular sell based on what I saw. Unfortunately, poke Balls were unavailable when I went so you might want to check with the store as to what they have before you visit.
The Pikachu macarons come in two flavours: mango or matcha. I was randomly given a matcha one. After a mini Pikachu-themed photo shoot, I indulged in the macaron. It was a pretty good overall with a meringue-like texture and an eggshell-like outer crust. I wouldn’t say it’s the best macaron available in the city as I feel that other places have a more crispy outer crust. Its novelty factor does make it a fun item to eat.
And if you missed my guest post on Vancity Buzz (now Daily Hive) a few months ago, Crackle Crème had a delicious vegan mango coconut crème brûlée.
Overall, Crackle Crème is a fun hole-in-the-wall dessert place that seems to continuously “evolve” the treats that they offer. I’m excited to hear about what owner, Daniel Wong, will do next. I definitely recommend giving their treats a try. Rating: 5/5
