Where to Eat in Vancouver for Cinco de Mayo 2019

In celebration of Cinco de Mayo 2019 on Sunday, May 5, here are a few places in Vancouver with special features.


Tacofino [Multiple Locations]

For Cinco de Mayo,Tacofino will feature tall cans of Tecate at all locations for $5.

Mariachi groups will be providing a Cinco soundtrack at the Gastown Taco Bar (15 W Cordova St.) with Las Estrellas de Vancouver performing from 1 pm to 2 pm. and La Santísima from 7 pm to 8 pm.

At Ocho (8 E 5th Ave.), Las Estrellas will take centre stage at Tacofino’s newest location in Mount Pleasant from 5 to 7 p.m.

Vancouver’s only all-female mariachi ensemble, Las Estrellas comprises a diverse group of musicians that performs at concerts and festivals both locally and abroad.

La Santísima is a double-guitar vaquero (cowboy) duo originally hailing from Nueva Rosita Coahuila, Mexico that features a mix of traditional Latin, mariachi, salsa and rumba flamenco stylings as well as more modern tunes.


Oyama Sausage [Granville Island]

Oyama Sausage‘s first annual weekend dedicated to celebrating Latin American cuisine takes place May 3 – May 5. Located in Granville Island’s Public Market, Oyama will feature a wide range of flavourful Chorizo sausages.

The shop will also offer other spicy fare including Botifarra and Linguiça, which is smoke-cured pork sausage seasoned with garlic and paprika.


Two Rivers Meats [North Vancouver]

Two Rivers Speciality Meats will be turning up the heat and throwing a daytime fiesta showcasing Mexican-inspired feature dishes.

The meaty limited-edition menu includes 5 south-of-the-border specials:

  • Chicharrones (fried pork rinds) served with hot sauce and fresh limes
  • a Taco Platter of turkey al pastor and pork chili verde tacos accompanied by jicama slaw
  • a six-ounce Arrachera Steak topped with a spicy adobo seasoning and served alongside grilled scallions and fries
  • a Sausage Platter featuring chorizo verde, lamb barbacoa and chipotle chicken sausages all freshly ground on site
  • a Chicken Torta Sandwich stacked with beans, fresh avocado, pickled onions, cilantro, jalapeños and lime crema

To drink, Two Rivers is serving a Michelada cocktail that mixes Clamato juice, lager and Mexican spices served in a salt-rimmed glass.


Taco Del Mar [Port Coquitlam]

Taco Del Mar Port Coquitlam is hosting their 11th Annual 5-Pounder Burrito Eating Challenge. Consume a 5-Pounder in 30 minutes or less and it’s FREE!

The 5-Pounder is a five‐pound burrito rolled with four tortillas stuffed with rice, beans, ground beef, cheese, pico de gallo, and sauce. It is equivalent to four-and‐a‐half Baja Burritos.

The 5-pounder Burrito Challenge costs $30, and if you choose a protein, the protein has to be ground beef, no substitutions. Vegetarians and Vegans welcomed.
