Major Tom is a popular Calgary spot known for a menu that blends steakhouse favourites with modern small plates, and a dining room with wide views of Downtown Calgary. They ranked Number 52 on Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants list in 2024.

I visited during their weekday happy hour—called “Golden Hour”—which runs from 3 PM to 5 PM and includes reduced pricing on drinks.

The Steak Tartare was one of the best I’ve had. It featured green peppercorn and capers, with a good balance of richness and acidity, served alongside crisp house sourdough toasts that added a nice crunch.

The Major Tots were a signature item with potato topped with smoked sturgeon and pickled onion. Each bite offered contrast in both texture and flavour.

I also tried the Rose Coloured Glasses, a mocktail made with raspberry, black tea, ginger, and rose. It was light, layered, and paired well with the savoury plates.

Located on the 40th floor of Stephen Avenue Place, the dining space features leather seating, bronze finishes, and a curved stone bar. Floor-to-ceiling windows and low lighting create a setting that feels both comfortable and refined.

Service was attentive and well-paced. I enjoyed the visit and would return on my next trip to Calgary.
