Lunch at Tractor Everyday Healthy Foods

In today’s fast-paced society, eating healthy while dining out might seem like a bit of a challenge sometimes.   Fortunately, locally-owned and operated Tractor Everyday Healthy Foods makes healthy eating accessible to busy urbanites on the go.  Offering a menu of fresh, locally focused meal options served up in a modern cafeteria-style restaurant, Tractor combines style and convenience without sacrificing food quality.

West Broadway Location

I recently had lunch at their West Broadway location, which is one of their five locations in Vancouver (Kitsilano, Olympic Village, Robson, Marine Building).  They recently opened up a sixth location in Toronto on Yonge Street.

This location in Fairview opened up in February this past year and is a new 2,100 square foot, 50-seat restaurant with a contemporary aesthetic.  The bright and airy space is accented by natural stone and wood elements.  You’ll also find a 25-seat south-facing outdoor patio.

Each Tractor location is equipped with an onsite kitchen team which prepares food from scratch daily using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.  Diners have the option to either build a custom bowl from a selection of hot and cold fresh market sides (with a heavy emphasis on vegetables) or order a-la-carte from the choice of house-made soups, stews, salads, and sandwiches.

Tractor’s full-scale kitchens are equipped with a grill, so that customers can add a protein to their bowl such as grilled albacore tuna, wild coho salmon, chicken breast, or organic tofu.  Hot options include Tractor’s signature grilled avocado, a menu staple at the Vancouver restaurants.

What I Tried

For lunch, I tried a variety of their offerings including bowls, a sandwich, stew, and a few of their drinks.

Grilled Avocado Bowl

One of the customer favourites at Tractor featuring choice of power greens and/or brown rice, two market sides, and a half grilled avocado.   For sides, I went with the kimchi mix (kimchi, cabbage, pickled carrots, green onions, black sesame seeds, mint, cilantro, kombu, red pepper vinaigrette) and the curried cauliflower (roasted cauliflower, red potato, pickled red onion, cilantro, mint, toasted coconut, curry yogurt dressing).

Short Rib Bowl

This bowl featured choice of power greens and/or brown rice, two market sides, and grilled short ribs.  For sides, I went with roasted cauliflower and carrots (with black currants, lemon, extra virgin olive oil, Italian parsley) and lemon kale (kale, radicchio, borlotti beans, toasted pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, asiago cheese, creamy lemon dressing).

Moroccan Chicken Stew

There’s nothing like a comforting stew.  The Moroccan Chicken Stew had grilled chicken, chickpeas, apricots, bulgar wheat, tomato and garnished with cilantro and almond dukkah.

Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich

This chicken sandwich was one of my favourites and I would love to order this again.  It had grilled chicken breast, arugula, pear, house pickled onions, provolone cheese, sourdough bread.  I would recommend this!

It was my first time trying Tractor and I was impressed with their high quality healthy meal options for eating on the go or for enjoying in their modern open concept dining space.  I certainly left feeling very nourished!  For more information, visit tractorfoods.com.
