Pan Fried Dumplings Newark CA [Review]

I met up with a friend at his family at Pan Fried Dumplings in Newark California – a casual and independently owned and operated Chinese restaurant serving pan fried and soup dumplings, rice and noodle dishes, stir fries and more.

Pan Fried Dumplings Newark CA [Review]

The restaurant interior seemed modern and stylish for a Chinese restaurant that has their type of menu.

There is an open kitchen where you can see them handmake their dumplings.

The order was taken by QR code at the table. The online menu (via QR code) also tells you how many of teach items have been sold so we could tell which were the most popular ones.

We were a group of 4 adults, 2 teenages and 2 younger kids and ordered mainly their best selling items.

The food was pricey for what they offer in my opinion. The XLBs were $12.50 for 6 which comes to be more than $2 a piece. That seems to be more than what they charge at Din Tai Fung and Dough Zone. I’ve had better elsewhere; the flavour from wasn’t particularly remarkable and even seemed a bit off from the authentic XLB taste.

The other dishes were just OK and seemed to be on the heavier and oilier side. I enjoyed the Snow Flake Pan Fried Dumpling (nicely presented and crispy) and the Beef Wrap the most.

The Ground Three Delight (with eggplant and red & green peppers) is a typical dish I would order but their version was really oily.

The service was pretty much minimal. The servers just bring the food to the table and scurried away. They didn’t ask us how things were or really refilled our glasses.

We had a 20% automatic gratuity because we were a bigger group but it would be have been nice for them to mention that when they dropped off the bill.

Our bill came out to be $241.72 and we had tons of leftovers. However, the leftovers didn’t seem to be worth having later on.

I prefer Dumpling Capital in Santa Clara and Dough Zone and Din Tai Fung more (even though the latter two are more Americanized). All three would be cheaper than Pan Fried Dumplings.
