Wolf + Wildflower, the newest wine bar to emerge on the greater Denver area culinary scene, will open Saturday, July 8 in the heart of Wheat Ridge.

Located at 7190 W. 38th Avenue, the new concept is women-owned and women-run by Tamara McTavish and Sarah Galloway.

The two have been friends for over a decade, and had always mused about opening a wine bar together.

The pair saw an opportunity when they happened upon a ‘for sale’ sign in the Audacity Lounge space that occupied it prior.

The space had potential and the location was prime, so they jumped at the chance.

Hospitality runs in the family.

Tamara’s husband, Jack McTavish, owns Berkeley neighborhood favorite Rocky Top Tavern, which was named one of the “100 Best Denver Bars We Can’t Live Without” by Westword editors.

McTavish (Tamara) notes that, “the name Wolf + Wildflower comes from wanting to play off of the duality of the two bars.

Wolf + Wildflower represents the more feminine while Rocky Top is more of the masculine.

It is a nod to two opposing but complementary forces.”

The eclectic wine program will highlight wines from small vineyards.

The selections include bottles of red, white, orange and bubbles, as well as wine on tap in partnership with Carboy Winery.

Wines will be available by the glass, starting at $8, and by the bottle.

Guests can also expect rotating daily specials and wine flights. Along with wine, an assortment of beer will also be available on draught and in bottles and cans.

The pared-down food menu includes charcuterie boards, a variety of snacks and desserts.

On weekends, the spot will also offer a bottomless mimosa bar ($21) and a limited brunch menu featuring Bonfire breakfast burritos, avocado toast and waffles with fresh fruit, syrup and whipped cream.

The menu will eventually expand to include seasonal rotations of ingredients.

The 1,600 square foot space boasts ample seating indoor and outdoor, with a 45 foot patio.

The space features a custom-repurposed white oak bar top with waterfall ends, a wall of windows that allows for a great deal of natural light and a neon sign that reads “you belong among the wildflowers,” an ode to the Tom Petty lyric.
