Tokyo John is a humble, long-standing neighbourhood sushi spot in Vancouver’s (BC Canada) Cambie Village.
The menu is extensive and you’ll find quality sushi, sashimi and Japanese and fusion fare at affordable prices in a casual setting.
Their menu includes starters (like agedashi tofu and seaweed salad); tempura; teriyaki and katsu; sashimi and katsu rice bowls; sashimi; nigiri sushi; udon; yakiudon noodle bowls; rolled sushi; oshi sushi; bento boxes and more.
We were hosted at Tokyo John and tried some of their more unique, creative options along with some customer favourites:
Lobster Roll (avocado, crab meat, deep fried lobster, asparagus, salad)
Aburi Sushi (toro, salmon belly, beef steak)
Yakitori
T.J. Tower (grilled salmon, tuna, scallop, crab meat, radish, alfalfa, avocado, ponzu sauce)

Tempura Udon
The dishes were well-executed, fresh and affordable for a go-to neighbourhood sushi spot.
The plating was artful and it was nice that they made the effort.
The interior and ambiance is nothing to write home about but their food is reasonable.
I thought they had a good rice to fish ratio considering how I’ve been to places where the rice proportion is way too much.
The lobster roll had a lot of sauce but it was not overwhelming; the sauce was also tasty.
Tokyo John is open for lunch and dinner. They are also popular for takeout.
