Sonoma County’s Flamingo Resort & Spa February Offerings

Built in 1957, the Flamingo Resort & Spa is a legendary oasis in the heart of Sonoma Wine Country that recently went through a multi-million dollar renovation to accentuate the mid-century architecture with a fresh modern feel. Historically, the Flamingo was a place to mingle and leave the pressures of everyday life behind while experiencing a different side of California. Over half a century later, under the wings of Pyramid Global Hospitality Management and Palm House Hospitality, the resort is ushering in a second heyday. This February, the Flamingo Resort & Spa has a variety of decadent offerings in store that will entice and reenergize those looking for exceptional culinary delights and flirty fun this winter. And during the last two weeks of February, Lazeaway Club, the resort’s dining venue, will be welcoming Chef Eric Huang from Brooklyn’s famed Pecking House into the kitchen for a highly-anticipated pop-up, where he will be showcasing his famous Sichuan Chili Fried Chicken which once generated a 10,000 person wait list in New York.

Last October, Lazeaway Club hosted two very successful and delicious culinary pop-ups in collaboration with Turntable, the San Francisco-based hub that facilitates chef residencies and pop-ups. This February, Lazeaway Club and Turntable are honored to bring famed New York Sichuan chili fried chicken pop-up Pecking House by Chef Eric Huang to Santa Rosa. Chef Eric Huang grew up in his family’s Chinese-American restaurant in Queens. When the restaurant shuttered due to the pandemic in 2020, he stepped in and started frying chicken and delivering it to New Yorkers trapped in their apartments, thus Pecking House was born. Pecking House became one of the pandemic’s most popular pop-ups with a waitlist of over 10,000 people. Eric is now a fried chicken dealer, operating out of his new brick-and-mortar space in Brooklyn, and popping-up via Turntable from time to time on the West Coast. In addition to Chef Huang’s addictive Sichuan Chili Fried Chicken with green garlic ranch, he’ll also be offering a Fried Chicken Sandwich and some of his favorite sides including Cheddar Cornbread with apple honey, Heirloom Butter Bean Salad, Mash with Duck Heart Gravy, and Almond Panna Cotta with Peaches and Ginger. And he’ll be making his West Coast debut of his brand new Fried Chicken and Waffles which he only just introduced to those in New York this past weekend. The menu will be available for lunch, brunch and dinner at Lazeaway Club and reservations may be made now via Opentable. As we get closer, those interested in ordering to go will be able to order in advance for pick-up via Tock.

The iconic Flamingo Resort & Spa, in the heart of the Valley of the Moon, was designed by Las Vegas architect Homer Rissman for developer Hugh Codding. In its heyday, the hotel drew celebrities and wealthy world travelers to its oversized pool and courtyard. Far enough from Hollywood but close enough for an impromptu escape, The Flamingo was there to host those drawn to the privacy and beauty of Sonoma, and serve bottomless martinis along the way. The City of Santa Rosa declared the Flamingo a historical landmark in 1996, and the resort’s original hot-pink neon sign still stands out front, a beacon among the redwoods.

The resort’s comprehensive renovations which were completed in 2021 include the building’s sweeping art deco entryway which has been adorned with striking angles and warm wood; a new lobby accented with a mix of retro and contemporary artwork; and all 170 guest rooms including 14 spacious suites have been remodeled with an emphasis on natural light and a serene palette. The fully-renovated, cutting-edge fitness center and spa are designed to revitalize the senses and promote wellness, while the tennis courts, serene pool, yoga studio, and brand-new cycle studio encourage guests to stay motivated and moving. The on-site dining destination, Lazeaway Club, serves up inspired Cal-Pacific cuisine led by Executive Chef Chris Ricketts; and Wild Bird is available on the patio for poolside dining.
