Schroeder’s SF Celebrates St. Paddy’s Day on March 17 with a Fidi Block Party AND Commemorates 130th Anniversary

San Francisco’s beloved German restaurant, Schroeder’s, will be honoring its 130th anniversary with many ways to celebrate throughout the year by offering large themed quarterly events, monthly throwback menu specials, new schwag, and debuting the Schroeder’s 130th Anniversary German Pilsner in March.

Founded in 1893, Schroeder’s is the oldest Bavarian-inspired beer hall on the West Coast and continues to be a convenient downtown Financial District favorite for San Francisco residents, business professionals, and tourists.

Quarterly German Events

  • 37th Annual St. Paddy’s Day block party on Friday, March 17, 2023, in conjunction with Royal Exchange 
  • Summer Beerfest on Friday, June 9, 2023
  • Annual Oktoberfest block party on Friday, September 15, 2023
  • Holiday fest on Friday, December 1, 2023, which will be a holiday shopping bazaar supporting local artisans
  • Food and beverage options available for purchase at all events will include classic Bavarian fares like brats and pretzels, German beer, and jello shots. Entertainment will include traditional German beer halls games like stein chugging, stein holding, and sausage eating contests; live bands; DJs; and more. All of these free 21+up events are open to the public and take place at Schroeder’s or on the Front Street block. Mark your calendars! Additional details to come about each event.

Schroeder’s 130th Anniversary German Pilsner

Chun, Wiginton, and General Manager Juan Pablo Bonomi have commissioned Richmond-based East Brother Beer Co. to create Schroeder’s 130th Anniversary German Pilsner.

The beer will be on tap starting in March and available throughout the year.

New Monthy Specials, Power Lunch, and “Friendly Friday” Happy Hour

Executive Chef Paul Ortiz has created a selection of rotating classic German and San Francisco dishes to celebrate the 130th anniversary.

The monthly special schedule is February: Sauerbraten with sauerkraut; March: Beef Rouladen with braised red cabbage; April: Chicken Tetrazzini; May: Pan Roasted Duck Breast with red wine sauce; June: Clam Chowder in a sourdough bread bowl; July: Shrimp Louie Salad; September: Grilled Pork Chop; October: Roasted Oktoberfest Chicken; November: Dungeness Crab Green Goddess Salad; and December: Seafood Cioppino.

Schroeder’s will also be introducing the new “Das Lunch” available Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Priced at $25, lunch-goers are invited to select a Starter and Entrée, and a housemade cookie is included.

Starter options include Kartoffel Tots with caraway sea salt and aioli; or Bavarian Pretzel with bier cheese. Entrée selections feature Fried Chicken Sandwich: chicken schnitzel, spicy cabbage slaw, provolone, horseradish aioli, torpedo roll; or Jager Schnitzel: pork cutlet, garlic smashed potatoes, sauerkraut, and mushroom gravy.

The new “Friendly Friday” happy hour features Shareable dishes available for half off from 3:00 p.m. to close, like Smothered Tots with mushroom gravy, white cheddar cheese curds, pickled Fresno chilies, green onion, horseradish; Crispy Buffalo Bites: boneless chicken thighs, buffalo sauce, buttermilk dill ranch, celery; and German Flatbread with bacon lardons, ricotta, caramelized onions, thyme, pickled onion, arugula.

The restaurant will be selling branded schwag throughout the year such as nostalgic hats, classic steins, branded Herman the German t-shirts, and more.

All-day happy hour continues on Monday which features Bavarian Pretzel with mustard ($7); Kartoffel Tots with sea salt and aioli ($4); Bratwurst in Bun with sauerkraut and mustard ($8); and Fried Chicken Sliders with schnitzel, spicy slaw, and provolone on a pretzel bun ($8).

All 0.5L drafts are $3 off; rotating beers on tap are $8; all wine by the glass are $4 off; cocktails are $7; and shots are $6 on Mondays.
