Established in 2009, Pyro Pizza is a popular, longstanding food cart in Portland specializing wood-fired pizza. They are located at the Cartopia food cart pod on South East Hawthorne.
Pyro Pizza serves wood-fired pizza using house-made sauces and cheese; seasonal farm-fresh produce and sustainable products. They also offer homemade soda on tap.
We got the Margherita (tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil, olive oil) and Pepperoni (tomato sauce, mozzarella and pepperoni) which were OK.
The pizzas tasted mostly salty to me and could have been more sweet and acidic. The pizza crust wasn’t as crispy as I would have liked. The tomato sauce needed to be more evenly applied.
In my opinion, the guy who made it on that day just didn’t give the pizza enough love to make it a more presentable, circular pizza with a less salty pizza dough crust and more aesthetic placement of the toppings.
I’m not too surprised by the product because the way he took the order from me was without enthusiasm.
All in all, it wasn’t a very good experience but this food cart has been around for a long time so other customers probably have had better pizzas from them compared to me.
