MingHin Chicago – Best Dim Sum, MICHELIN Recommended

MingHin is a popular dim sum restaurant brand with multiple locations in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. Their Chinatown location on the ground level of Chinatown Square has been a MICHELIN-recommended restaurant for several years.

Wait System

We visited their Chinatown location on a weekend and there was a wait. They give you a number and call out the number via microphone so you can still hear them calling from the outside. Our party of 4 waiting about 20 minutes which wasn’t too bad.

Interior

The interior seemed clean, spacious and organized with different seating areas which make it flexible for for casual gatherings, intimate dinners, and large banquets.

We sat at a booth which was comfortable and spacious, and enough room for 4 people.

Dim Sum Price

Dim Sum is priced as Small ($5.75); Medium ($6.35); $Large ($6.95) and Special ($8.95).

They offer push carts but they do hand out a fillable menu where you can check off the items that you want to order. A tablet was also placed on our table for any additional special items you want to order, in which your server will input for you.

What We Tried

All the dishes were solid. The buns had a good filling to dough ratio and the bun was soft and fluffy. The Shrimp Dumplings had a nice, thin, glutinous wrapper with a bouncy, juicy shrimp. The Chicken Feet were tender. The Choy Sum was crisp on the outside and tender. The Baked BBQ Pork Turnover had a perfect flaky pastry exterior. There was no tea charge as well.

The service was a standout for me because our server (who also seemed like the manager) did check on our table to make sure all our items arrived. It was way above average compared to other rim sum restaurants I have been to in North America.

The bill came out to be $54 before tip which seemed reasonable.

MingHin Chicago Chinatown is located at 2168 S Archer Ave, Chicago, IL.
