Little Karp is a new fine dining destination in Richmond (BC Canada) offering a menu with West Coast and Asian influences.
It is owned and operated by a husband and wife duo who worked in hospitality at some of the best five star hotels in Asia.
The restaurant specializes in seafood dishes prepared from live seafood and sources fine, local ingredients wherever possible.
We were hosted as media at Little Karp and tried their seasonal tasting menu ($156 per person) with a unique champagne pairing (+$80):
Little Karp Bread with Butter Duo
Whole grain sourdough/potato sourdough, tarragon butter, fermented black bean butter. We loved the luscious fermented black bean butter (a butter with an Asian flare).
Snacks
Lobster beignet; white asparagus and eggplant tahini tart; seaweed rice cracker with scallion aioli; soy curls skewer.
Goat Milk Bavarois
The OLIVE FARM (Salt Spring Island, BC) extra virgin olive oil, Vancouver Island sea salt, BC goat milk. The goat milk bavarois was wonderfully smooth and luscious. We also loved the EVOO which we happily scrapped off every last bit from the dish.
Cauliflower Salad
Romanesco, purple cabbage foam, pecorino, extra virgin olive oil. A colourful dish with fresh and crisp cauliflower.
Turnip Fagottini
Mushroom chutney, umami vegetable broth.
Butter Poached Live Lobster
Miso sudachi butter sauce, pickled kohlrabi, spinach fluid gel. Little Karp’s signature dish with a sweet and succulent lobster decorated with flower-shaped kohlrabi.
Venison Tartare
Truffle potato pave, house pickled sea buckthorn. We loved the beautiful crisp potato layers in the potato pave and the flavorful tartare.
Fish and Chips
Atlantic salmon, green almond sauce, crispy quinoa, chines, sunchoke, cassava.
Valerie’s Granita
Honeydew, cantaloupe, soymilk custard, roasted soybean powder, yuzu pear, birch shards. Named after the owners’ daughter. A refreshing, cool dessert that serves as a lovely finish to a wonderful meal.
Cocktails
With a creative bar manager, Little Karp is offering molecular mixology inspired cocktails like the deconstructed margarita and amaretto sour. You will also be impressed by the top notch service at Little Karp given the experience and expertise of the owners in hospitality.
Champagne Pairing
The champagnes paired with the meal were from smaller vineyards.
We enjoyed the creativity of the menu and the passion of the team to offer a inviting and unique experience in the emerging fine dining segment of Richmond.
My favourites of the evening were the Goat Milk Bavarois; Butter Poached Live Lobster; Venison Tartare and Valerie’s Granita.
Little Karp is located at 8631 Alexandra Rd unit 110, Richmond, BC.
