Le Marais Bakery is a charming, French-inspired bakery that has been stealing the hearts of locals and tourists in San Francisco alike for years.

With its mouthwatering pastries, delectable brunch fare, and cozy ambiance, this little slice of Paris on the West Coast has become a beloved institution.

Le Marais’s owner, Patrick Ascaso, was on a mission to recreate the boulangerie from his childhood in France, and that’s exactly what he did.
In 2013, Ascaso opened this bakery in the Marina neighborhood in San Francisco. While it has changed locations since then, Le Marais currently has three locations – one in the Castro-Mission neighborhood, another in Mill Valley, and an artisanal commissary kitchen in the center of town. The team also opened Grande Creperie in the Ferry Building in 2022.

Bakery items include chocolate croissants, cinnamon buns, flan, brownies, cookies, and more.

Aside from their delectable baked goods, they are also a top-notch brunch destination. With a menu featuring dishes like Croque Monsieur, Eggs Benedict, and Avocado Toast, they seamlessly blend classic French and Californian influences, catering to a diverse range of palates. The ingredients are fresh, and the presentation is always Instagram-worthy, making it a favorite spot for foodies.
To accompany your meal or pastry, Le Marais Bakery offers local French roast coffee as well as boozy beverages, like mimosas or a negroni.
The interior of both bakery locations is simple and elegant with marble tables and natural light.

We got a regular croissant; ham & cheese croissant; cinnamon bun; pain au raisin; and chocolate croissant – all of which were delicious.

Whether you’re stopping by for a croissant and coffee, indulging in a leisurely brunch, or bringing a piece of Paris home, Le Marais Bakery will leave you with a sense of culinary delight that you won’t forget.
