We tried Chicken & Guns, a food cart located in Portland’s Cartopia food cart pod on South East Hawthorne.
They specialize in Latin-inspired, locally-raised, free-range chicken, slowly wood-fired grilled over Oregon white oak. For sides, they offer “guns” which crispy potatoes with lemon and sea salt, topped with pickled onions and aji sauce.
We got the Quarter Bird with “guns” and Chimichurri sauce as well as the Wings which are served with sweet Aji Amarillo chili sauce and Habanero Carrot sauce. The chicken was complemented by the bright, acidic, spicy flavours from the Chimichurri sauce. The Aji and Habanero sauce was sweet and tangy.
The chicken had just the right amount of crisp on the outside and were tender and juicy on the inside. They were nicely and smoky and spicy! The crispy potatoes were pretty good.
