Tujague’s New Orleans Apple Spice Cake Recipe


  • 1 cup Dark Brown Sugar
  • ¼ cup Vegetable Oil
  • ½ cup Molasses
  • 4 Eggs
  • ¼ Cup Applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • ½ cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • 1 cup AP Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cloves


  1. 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Whisk oil, sugar and molasses together in a bowl
  3. Whisk in eggs and vanilla.
  4. Slowly add in water and whisk together.
  5. Stir in applesauce.
  6. In a separate bowl, combine salt, flour, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves together in a separate bowl.
  7. Slowly add the bowl of dry ingredients into the first bowl and stir until they are just mixed (don’t overmix).
  8. Pour into a 10-inch cake pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
  9. Bake at 350 degrees for 38 minutes.
