The Bakery Bar in New Orleans offers a mix of inventive cocktails and a menu featuring doberge cakes and savoury options.

Brunch range from sweet to savoury and include French toast with custard and seasonal fruit to hearty breakfast plates. Biscuit sandwiches, breakfast tacos, and loaded potato dishes provide filling choices, while fresh salads and lighter fare balance the selection. Fried chicken and house-ground burgers add a more indulgent element for those craving something rich.
Desserts showcase a strong New Orleans influence, with beignets, Doberge cake, flan, and crème brûlée taking centre stage. Gelato and sorbet round out the offerings with creamy and refreshing options.

The drinks menu features brunch staples like mimosas and Bloody Marys, as well as house specialties with bold flavours. A coffee old fashioned made with chicory syrup and cold brew nods to the city’s coffee culture, while a signature Bloody Mary variation adds pickled treats and crisp bacon for extra depth.

If you’re not familiar, Doberge cake is a New Orleans classic that has origins in Hungarian dobos torte. Traditionally featuring multiple thin layers of cake separated by pudding, it is covered in a smooth buttercream or poured fondant. The result is a rich yet delicate texture that has made it a local favourite for generations.

The one I tried was the Pecan Praline Doberge Cake which combines white pecan cake with caramel pudding and pecan praline icing for a sweet, nutty finish. Other items I had include the Red Velvet Dobite which is a red velvet cake layered with peanut butter banana pudding and topped with peanut butter bacon icing for a mix of rich and salty flavours. The Breakfast Sandwich was a super hearty brunch item and featured a buttermilk biscuit with garlic aioli, bacon, and a fluffy egg folded around cheddar cheese.

Cocktail pairings and an extensive beer and wine selection round out the experience, making this a great stop for dessert lovers and those looking for a well-crafted drink.

The space reflects a mix of rustic and vintage design elements, with exposed brick, wooden beams, and warm lighting. A well-stocked bar serves as a focal point, lined with an extensive selection of spirits. Booth and table seating create a relaxed setting, making it a comfortable spot for brunch and drinks.

The Bakery Bar is located at 1179 Annunciation St, New Orleans, LA.
