Northern BBQ $16.88 AYCE Lunch Buffet in Burnaby [Review]

Northern BBQ (小酒馆.深夜大排档) in Burnaby is currently offering a $16.99 all-you-can-eat-lunch buffet.

The lunch buffet is available from 10 am – 2:30 pm from Monday – Thursday.

Pricing

The pricing is $16.99 for adults; seniors 65+ 20% off; children 5 – 12 50% off; and children under 4 are free. You can also get a single takeout box from the buffet for $16.88.

How it works

We visited Northern BBQ for the lunch buffet and here is my honest review.

How it works is that the staff handles the buffet and scoops the items that you want into a stainless steel tray.

Buffet Menu

Some of the items that were included at the time of my visit included

smashed cucumber with garlic
Chinese donuts
tea eggs
corn soup
broccoli
braised pork hock
pork and pepper stir-fry
tomato and eggs
fish with sauerkraut
ma po tofu
spicy chicken
shredded pork with garlic sauce
cabbage and pork dumplings
stir-fried shrimp
pork ribs with radish
clams
veggies stir-fry

You can also get rice with your meal. As for drinks, the buffet includes tea and soy milk.

Was it worth it?

In general, the food was reasonable.

They had one my favourite Sichuan dishes, shredded pork with garlic sauce 鱼香肉丝, but a milder less spicy version.

The ma po tofu was legit. The pork & cabbage dumplings were very good and had a good amount of tender, filling. The Chinese donut was pretty good.

The more valuable items at the buffet were probably the clams and the stir-fry shrimp.

The soy milk didn’t taste very good because it seemed quite watered down.

I did have some small issues with the buffet protocol like customers offering their own used trays for refills from the buffet. I’m sure they would give you a clean tray if you asked but still.

Service

When we were there, it was somewhat busy but they didn’t seem to have enough staff to keep up with the demand and the cleaning of the tables. The staff were nice and come to your table at the end for the payment.

Interior & Vibe

The interior is lively and energetic with neon signs decorated throughout the space.
